British “Doctor Who” actor Noel Clarke is charged with two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism and one count of exposure following a string of incidents alleged to have occurred in London between 2007 and 2016.
Five women accuse the 51-year-old actor of misconduct, according to the British Crown Prosecution Service.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so,” prosecutors said in a statement posted Wednesday.
The prosecutors office said it worked closely with Metropolitan Police to reach their decision.
Clarke played recurring character Mickey Smith for five years before leaving the show in 2010. Authorities didn’t say specifically what he’s alleged to have done.
The Guardian reported in 2021 that 20 women accused Clarke of inappropriate sexual behavior and bullying. He denied all of their claims. Some of his accusers allege that he sexual harassed them either on the set of “Doctor Who” or at events tied to the long-running science fiction program.
Media outlets including the BBC cut ties with Clarke after The Guardian’s report. A recently won BAFTA award was also rescinded.
The BBC announced in June that plans for a “Doctor Who” holiday special had been nixed and that the show was being made available to prospective producers through a “competitive tender.”
Variety reported that it could take “years” for new episodes to be released.
