A New Jersey corrections officer who urged police to “Just arrest me bro” after killing his girlfriend and her friend in 2021 was sentenced to 50 years in a state prison.
Hudson County corrections officer John P. Menendez copped to first-degree aggravated manslaughter after shooting 40-year-old victims Anna Shpilberg and Luiza Shinkarevskaya. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office told the Daily News Menendez received 25 years for each victim and said those sentences will run consecutively. He’s required to serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Menendez, 27, allegedly became upset when Shpilberg, whom he had been dating, ignored his calls while vacationing with Shinkarevskaya. Their bodies were found in different parts of Newark in February 2021 shortly after Menendez picked both women up at Newark Liberty International airport.
“I killed both of them. Just arrest me, bro,” Menendez reportedly said when he surrendered to an officer on patrol.
NJ.Com said he committed the killings with his service weapon,

The victims both moved to the U.S. from Ukraine and lived in Brooklyn before relocating to New Jersey, according to NJ.com.
