One No Man’s Sky player has recently encountered an Atlas Interface crashed on a planet. While their discovery amazed many of their peers, further testing suggests that this unusual Atlas location is rooted in a bug rather than being some previously undiscovered No Man’s Sky secret.

The cosmic entity at the center of No Man’s Sky lore, the Atlas is so integral to the game’s worldbuilding that it even appears on some cover artwork, including the one for the Xbox edition of Hello Games’ hit sci-fi survival title. Players can interact with it via Atlas Interfaces, which take the form of a mysterious big red orb inside a space station-like structure and can be uncovered by following The Atlas Path primary mission.

No Man’s Sky Player Encounters Crashed Atlas Interface

Under normal circumstances, an Atlas Interface will appear floating in outer space. However, Reddit user DetailTraining3438 recently discovered another possibility, having stumbled on an interface that appears to have crashed onto a planet. Less than half of the structure was left protruding from the planet’s surface, creating an imposing sight that adds to the list of unusual discoveries No Man’s Sky players have made to date.

Video footage of DetailTraining3438’s discovery amassed thousands of upvotes and emerged on the front page of the game’s largest subreddit in early August 2025. By popular request, the player has shared their No Man’s Sky Portal Glyphs so that others can visit the unusual location as well. However, some who traveled there reported the Atlas Interface spawning in orbit as normal rather than appearing crashed. This aligns with earlier observations that Atlas structure positions can vary between player instances. Even so, DetailTraining3438 maintained that the structure should still appear crashed in co-op.

Given this state of affairs, the unusual Atlas location appears to stem from a previously unreported No Man’s Sky glitch rather than being something developers intentionally implemented into the game. Elaborating on their finding, DetailTraining3438 confirmed that they were able to climb the crashed structure on foot after landing in its vicinity. However, the gravity felt “as heavy as two colliding planets” while doing so, the player shared.

Quests in No Man's Sky

Bug or no, the landlocked Atlas proved to be an entertaining sight for many a player. “It wasn’t crashed, it’s having a little break,” wrote Reddit user Snoo61755. Several other fans have also expressed amazement at just how massive the Atlas truly is, which is something that’s normally difficult to gauge when it’s floating in space without a planet to provide a sense of scale.
