Crunchyroll’s New Big Hit Anime Is Growing Fast, And It Might Just Beat Solo Leveling

When it comes to popular anime series in 2024 and 2025, Solo Leveling is one of the first anime series to come to mind. Solo Leveling Season 1 was huge, with Sung Jinwoo unlocking his powerful abilities, and Season 2 was even crazier, with the intense battle that unfolded on Jeju Island between Sung Jinwoo and the Ant King.

Nevertheless, there are new anime series coming out every other day, and many have the potential to not only match but maybe even eventually surpass Solo Leveling. One of these series is To Be Hero X. This anime from China has been growing fast in popularity. While not on Solo Leveling’s level yet, there is a clear positive reception of Chinese anime within the anime community, and the demand for more will only grow with these big hits.

Solo Leveling Was a Huge Win For Anime Adapted from Korean Webnovels, but Chinese Animes seem to Be Taking Over

Solo Leveling has been huge, especially for Korean series. While the anime itself is animated by a Japanese studio, the story is based on a Korean web novel. Solo Leveling will definitely pave the way for more Manhwa series to be turned into anime.

Meanwhile, To Be Hero X first started airing this year, back in April, and it has quickly become one of Crunchyroll’s fastest-growing series. Although not quite as popular as Solo Leveling, with more seasons, it just could.

This came as a surprise to many, as this series is a Donghua, or Chinese anime. Until very recently, Donghua were not very big outside of China, but with series like To Be Hero X, or even Lord of the Mysteries, their popularity is growing. Both the stories and animation of these series have caught the attention of many fans overseas.

Solo Leveling, and other big anime series, really have to be able to compete with the level that Donghua are putting out. This is especially true as many of these Donghua are now finally available on the same streaming platforms, such as Crunchyroll, which boosts their reach to global fans.

Solo Leveling specifically could find it harder to compete in upcoming years as its third anime season has yet to be even confirmed, and the wait for it could be very long. Many fans won’t be able to stay interested in a fast-paced story the hype for which is short-lived. To Be Hero X could very well take advantage of just that and become the biggest Crunchyroll anime. Only time will tell if it can truly accomplish that.

Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season.
