This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
One Piece has one of the biggest and most diverse casts of characters, which is hardly surprising, especially since it has more than 1100 chapters. Such a massive cast would overwhelm most authors, but Eiichiro Oda is different. The mangaka has treated almost every single character with the utmost care.

One Piece: After 6 Years, Oda Has Finally Revealed The Greatest Legend Rocks D. Xebec
Rocks D. Xebec is a legendary figure. He has finally made an appearance in One Piece.
In some cases, Oda has put in so much effort that some of the side characters in One Piece end up being better than the main ones. The legendary Rocks D. Xebec also falls into this category. While he was mentioned several times in the story, he didn’t make his full appearance until the Elbaf arc.
Rocks D. Xebec’s Backstory Was Amazing
Xebec was blessed with an insane amount of strength
Xebec’s backstory elevated him above the rest of the characters
One of the main defining traits of Rocks D. Xebec is his backstory. For most of the story, he was known as “Rocks.” Everyone who knew about Xebec called him “Rocks D. Xebec.” But it was later revealed that he was hiding his real identity from the World Government.
Xebec’s actual name was Davy D. Xebec, meaning he belonged to the infamous Davy bloodline. The World Government had been targeting the Davy clan for centuries, as it considered them traitors. Naturally, Xebec and other survivors changed their names to avoid persecution.
Even after forming his own crew, Xebec never shared the truth about his lineage with him. In fact, the only person who knew about Xebec’s lineage was Harald, as he considered the giant his best friend.
Xebec Was Incredibly Powerful
Xebec Defeated Many Strong Opponents
In addition to his amazing backstory, Rocks D. Xebec was also an incredible warrior. To this day, he remains one of the few pirates to have entered Marijoa and left alive. Not only that, but Xebec also killed an Admiral and infiltrated Imu’s room, even issuing a challenge to the ruler of the world. As a descendant of Davy D. Jones, Xebec was strong-willed and ambitious. Like his ancestor, he also wanted to become the ruler of the world.

In order to achieve his goal, Xebec began recruiting strong fighters to form the Rocks Pirates. With so many powerful allies, Xebec knew that he could realize his dream. Even though his crew was filled with multiple strong fighters, none of them actually came close to him. Xebec was a true behemoth who was at the top of his era. In battles, he wielded his sword and infused the attacks with Haki to increase his destructive power. Xebec’s sword strikes were compared to those of a cannon. As a matter of fact, Xebec broke the Gates of Justice with his sword attacks. If a normal person were to be hit by them, they would have a prayer of surviving.
Xebec Loved His Family A Lot
Despite having a reputation for being a cruel man, Xebec was actually rather caring. When he learned about the World Government’s plans to hold the Hunting Competition on God Valley, he wasted no time in rushing back. Xebec loved his family, and he wanted to keep them safe at all costs. When Imu used Domi Reversi on Xebec and ordered him to kill his family, he was in tears.
Xebec Is The Best Post-Timeskip Character In One Piece
Keeping everything in mind, there is absolutely no question that Rocks D. Xebec is the best-written character that Oda has introduced in the post-timeskip part of One Piece. In just one flashback, Xebec upended all the competition and claimed the spot for himself.
In fact, there is a strong possibility that Xebec could end up in the top ten most popular characters in the second Global Popularity Poll. Since the Elbaf arc is still ongoing, Xebec’s feats will still be fresh on fans’ minds, which gives him a better chance of finishing in the top ten. The voting is already open, and it will be so for a while. The results for the poll will be announced on One Piece Day, which will take place in August 2026.
