With the arrival of the Xeno Arena update for No Man’s Sky, players can now engage in holographic battles with their companions, all of which have their own unique ability sets and stats. Naturally, players will therefore want to know how to find the best creatures for Holo-Arena in No Man’s Sky. This is done with the help of a new mode for the Analysis Visor, which identifies a creature’s combat potential.

How To Find The Best Holo-Arena Creatures In No Man’s Sky
To find new creatures for your team, head to planets with biomes that you don’t already have in your team. Then use the Analysis Visor (F) to scan land creatures as usual, gaining Units and identifying a new species.
Players can then switch modes by pressing 3 until they reach the third mode, Creature Survey Mode, which has a paw icon. Using this, a creature’s Holo-Arena stat potential can be seen on the right. Look for species that have a high potential in Combat Effectiveness, Agility, and Health.

You can also see the creature’s affinity, such as toxic or fire.
How To Tame Creatures In No Man’s Sky
Once players have identified a creature they would like to recruit for their Holo-Arena team, it’s time to tame them. To do so, players will first need to craft Creature Pellets from Carbon.
You can then walk up to a creature and hold E to feed them these pellets. Upon doing so, they will be tamed, and players will now be able to press E, this time bringing up a few options, including Adopt as Companion.

How To Upgrade Holo-Arena Creatures In No Man’s Sky
Finding a creature with a high potential is all well and good, but they need genetic mutations to reach that potential. By simply fighting and winning Holo-Arena games, creatures will gain progress toward a mutation. Mutation points can be spent in the Companion Register on one of the three stats. Once a creature has its stats maxed out, its individual abilities can be improved, too.
If you want to improve a specific companion, make sure they fight first or second, and your third creature doesn’t always see combat in the case of easy victories.
By winning, players may also be rewarded with Retrovirial Pellets. These can be fed to a companion of the player’s choice, and a pellet is essentially one upgrade point. Summon the creature with X for an option to feed it this pellet.

How To Unlock More Companion Slots In No Man’s Sky
New players will only start with two available creature slots in their Companion Register. New slots can be purchased with No Man’s Sky’s rarer currency, Nanites. The first slot will cost 500 Nanites, but this will increase to 1000 and so on.
Unlocking the first slot and filling it to have three companions is imperative, as Holo-Arena teams are made up of three creatures. Players will want to keep expanding their roster so that they have all the affinities and are thus able to counter opponents. For example, fire creatures deal more damage to those with the frost affinity.
The Companion Register can be opened by pressing X and scrolling to the paw print where companions are summoned.
