Call of Duty Leaks Hint at Surprising New Release

A batch of recent Call of Duty leaks is hinting at new ports of both Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 for the PS4 and PS5 in the near future. The Call of Duty ports would be the first new releases of the original games that started the Black Ops subseries in over a decade.

The Call of Duty franchise has branched out in plenty of different directions since its roots as a World War 2-themed shooter. Modern Call of Duty releases are typically divided into one of two main subseries, with both Black Ops and Modern Warfare seeing massive success for Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, and Raven Software. The series has also seen success with its Warzone battle royale mode, receiving multiple new versions to coincide with major Call of Duty releases. Now, new leaks are hinting at the unexpected return of a pair of classic Call of Duty games.

Call of Duty Leaks Hinting at Surprising Black Ops Ports

Multiple recent Call of Duty leaks are hinting at new ports for the first two games in the Black Ops subseries. First reported by prominent leaker PlayStation Game Size, the ports will bring both Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 to the PS4 and PS5. The new versions are currently expected to be direct ports of the PS3 versions of the Black Ops games, rather than remastered versions with enhanced graphics. Gaming insider CharlieIntel later provided more information about the pair of Black Ops ports, suggesting that the ports only include a native PS4 version that will be backward-compatible on PS5. A release window was not confirmed for the Black Ops rereleases.

The new Call of Duty ports will likely give fans the chance to relive some of the most groundbreaking games in the Call of Duty franchise. The original Call of Duty: Black Ops is often considered to be one of the pinnacles of the series, with the shooter sitting in the top 50 best-selling games of all time. Black Ops received multiple “Game of the Year” nominations at various industry award shows and has sold more than 30 million copies to date. Black Ops 2 performed similarly well following its release in 2012, selling more than 24 million copies.

The rumored Call of Duty rereleases would be an unusual step for a franchise that has often chosen to reboot its older games. The Modern Warfare series has welcomed the release of a multitude of reboots of older games, recently revealing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 as its big new release for 2026. The Black Ops series has also alternated new releases with games developed by Infinity Ward, most recently launching Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in November 2025.

The return of Black Ops’ original titles joins big plans for Call of Duty’s next major release. Infinity Ward recently unveiled plenty of new information about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, setting up the game’s main conflict on the Korean Peninsula. The official announcement for the newest Modern Warfare game has even broken records for the franchise, with Modern Warfare 4’s initial reveal trailer becoming the most-viewed trailer on the Call of Duty channel.
