Aside from following the opponent’s moves, you also need to keep an eye out for the status icons that appear around your fighter’s or opponent’s HUD in UFC 6. These icons offer valuable insight into each fighter’s condition. Based on the status icons, you should decide to play more aggressively or take a defensive pose. Players who ignore the status icons often miss valuable signals to change their pace, which is why we’ll explain each icon below.

Head, Body, or Leg Stun Icons in UFC 6

If you lose a significant amount of max health in an organ, a stun is more likely to happen. When a stun is triggered, you will get a white glow on your side of the screen, and your character will lose stability, moving more slowly and performing your inputs with a delay.

Mostly, the stun may cause your character to fall onto the ground. A stun creates a massive opportunity for the opponent with the upper hand to strike more aggressively and land follow-up shots with a high success rate.

It’s usually recommended to go for a takedown after your opponent is stunned. You need to quickly make your decision, as the window for taking advantage of the stun is quite short. If you are the fighter who is stunned, try to distance yourself from the opponent and take your guard up until you recover enough health on the stunned organ.

Going for a head stun is more beneficial than targeting other organs, as targeting the head can also force a Doctor Stoppage on your opponent, which is another win condition in the Competitive mode of UFC 6.

Max Stamina Reduction Icon in UFC 6

The heart icon with a downward arrow appears after a choke attempt. It is not a guaranteed outcome, but if a choke attempt is executed properly, it will cause a lasting effect on the target’s stamina, reducing their max stamina level. Keep in mind that even a failed or unfinished choke attempt has a chance to leave a lasting effect.

If you try to master submissions, this icon should be something that you would want to apply to your opponents. Reducing the max stamina of a fighter will put them at a massive disadvantage. Some of the critical moves in UFC 6 require a stamina advantage over the target.

Arm Health Icon in UFC 6

Similar to the Max Stamina Reduction icon, Arm Health is also a result of a submission. If you perform an arm submission, you may apply structural damage to the opponent’s arm, which is indicated by the Arm Health icon. Targeting that arm in your next submissions will be a smart exploit to benefit from.

As is the case with Max Stamina Reduction, even a defended submission can leave an Arm Health icon on the target, and that still makes the move quite valuable.

Doctor Stoppage Icon in UFC 6

If a fighter receives a significant amount of facial damage, then a Doctor Stoppage icon will appear next to the head’s health bar. A cut is the most common injury type that causes bleeding, resulting in a Doctor Stoppage icon. Swelling and other severe head injuries will also count towards a Doctor Stoppage.

The icon will initially appear in yellow, a caution indicator for the fighter carrying this injury. If they receive more clear shots in the same area of the head, the Doctor Stoppage icon will turn red. Any successful shots after that in the same area could trigger a Doctor Stoppage. This means the doctor may interrupt the fight to check on the injured fighter’s condition. If they decide that the condition is critical, the fight will be over, and the other fighter will win immediately.

Doctor Stoppage will only happen if it’s activated in the settings menu. Playing with the Knockout combat preset will have Doctor Stoppage disabled by default, which means you will never get this icon.

Breathing Penalty Icon in UFC 6

As the fight continues into the late rounds, the fighters lose more max stamina, making it harder to recover from mistakes. Stamina management becomes a key strategy in the final rounds, and a silent injury can disrupt it significantly.

Breathing Penalty makes stamina recovery slower. This means your stamina bar will refill more slowly when you don’t take any action. This is a significant disadvantage, as you will lose pace in your strikes. Breathing Penalty will limit your options and prevent you from landing back-to-back hits. It will also make it even harder to fight on the ground.

Facial injuries around the fighter’s nose or mouth trigger the Breathing Penalty. Depending on how severe the injury is, it could last for multiple rounds or go away after a single round.

If you are affected by a Breathing Penalty, take a defensive style until you recover from injury. It’s highly recommended to avoid performing combos, takedowns, or submissions. Keep your distance from the opponent and try to shoot single attacks.

Vision Penalty Icon in UFC 6

Having your vision disrupted makes it harder to follow the opponent’s moves. When you deal damage to a fighter’s eye, it has a chance to create a Vision Penalty. Similar to Doctor Stoppage, Vision Penalty also comes with two grades of yellow and red.

When the icon appears, the incoming strikes from the injured eye’s side will deal more damage than usual. It doesn’t hinder the affected player’s defense, as they can still block the incoming shots successfully, but if any strikes go through, it will be a strong hit.

The red grade of Vision Penalty is even more severe. If you ever get this icon on your fighter, it’s better to keep your distance and stay in a defensive position until the injury goes away. Resting in between the rounds will help you recover from a Vision Penalty.

Overall, the head is the most critical organ to target in UFC 6. If you manage to land successful kicks, punches, or elbow attacks on the opponent’s head, you will have the chance to apply a variety of debuffs.
