Jujutsu Kaisen currently holds the title of one of the biggest things to come out of Shonen Jump, but like every great series, the time to say goodbye is slowly coming closer. While it may not be the most perfect anime out there, there is no denying the massive impact Jujutsu Kaisen has had on the anime and manga world. The series became a global phenomenon, introduced millions of fans to its unique world of curses and sorcery, and created some of the most memorable characters in recent years. Moreover, it is a well-known fact that the Jujutsu Kaisen manga remains one of the 10 best-selling manga series of all time, and that alone is a massive achievement. Not every manga/series gets to reach that level of success, and Jujutsu Kaisen has earned its place among the biggest names in anime.

Jujutsu Kaisen anime is slowly approaching its end, but fans are not ready to say goodbye to the kind of energy and excitement that this series brought to the world. Luckily, Shonen Jump has a title that will very well be the next Jujutsu Kaisen. What comes next is the perfect Jujutsu Kaisen successor, and, to many’s surprise, this manga took 20 years to come to fruition as an anime. However, while the end of Jujutsu Kaisen is deemed the end of an era, Shonen Jump already has another title waiting to take Jujutsu Kaisen’s place. What’s interesting is that this series has the potential to become the next big thing after Jujutsu Kaisen.

Satelight’s Psyren Will Be Shonen Jump’s Next Major Hit

The success of Jujutsu Kaisen is credited to its strong storytelling combined with incredible action, and the way it kept fans hooked throughout both the manga and the anime. From its intense battles to unforgettable characters, Jujutsu Kaisen is more than just another Shonen title but a global phenomenon that helped define a new era of anime, earning millions of fans worldwide. While replacing a series as big as Jujutsu Kaisen is not an easy task, the upcoming successor, which is Satelight’s battle shōnen Psyren, has already built a strong following over the years.

JJK is one of the biggest shonen series, but it has yet to beat this one other anime.

The Psyren manga is a hidden gem of Shonen Jump, and what makes it interesting is that nearly 20 years ago, it was one of the most talked-about titles. The original manga was serialized by Shueisha in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2007 to November 2010, and the series concluded with 16 collected volumes. It was later published in English by VIZ Media, allowing access to international fans. Despite gaining popularity and building a loyal fanbase, Psyren never received the anime adaptation that many fans believed it deserved during its original run. But tables have turned, and after years of waiting, the series finally has the opportunity to step into the spotlight, and that too, at a perfect time. With Jujutsu Kaisen nearing its end, a new generation of fans is about to discover Psyren and welcome it as the next big Shonen title.

Psyren already has a loyal fanbase, as during the 2000s it was widely considered one of the standout manga in Shonen Jump. As such, loyal fans have waited for years to finally see it receive an anime adaptation, and despite the long wait and many reasons behind the delay, that moment is finally here. Psyren TV anime premieres in Japan at the beginning of October 2026, and the anime will adapt the entire manga up to its conclusion.

The cult hit Psyren had to wait nearly 20 years to receive anime treatment because it came out during the most competitive time in the history of Shonen Jump. At the time, the magazine was filled with major hits like Gintama, D.Gray-man, and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, while the legendary Big Three of Shonen, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, were all at the peak of their popularity. As such, Psyren faced immense competition and was overshadowed by the massive success of the surrounding titles. While it was performing well and gaining a dedicated following during this time, Psyren was ultimately canceled, leaving its cult fans wondering what could have been if the series had stuck around a little longer.

Now, decades later, Psyren finally has the opportunity to step out of the shadows of the Big Three and reintroduce itself as an anime to a new generation of anime fans, especially those looking for a Jujutsu Kaisen replacement. However, apart from its comparisons to Jujutsu Kaisen, Psyren TV anime has massive potential and the perfect chance to become something of its own. It needn’t be necessarily compared to JJK to become something because it has its own world, story, and identity that can help it stand apart. While with the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, the timing has made comparisons inevitable, Psyren holds enough potential to create its own legacy in 2026 and therefore become a major Shonen title in its own right.

At the end of December 2025, REMOW officially announced that Toshiaki Iwashiro’s psychic battle action manga Psyren would finally receive a TV anime adaptation, scheduled to broadcast in Japan in 2026. Along with this announcement, an official website and social media accounts for the anime were launched, revealing the main staff, key cast members, teaser trailer, and promotional artwork for the upcoming adaptation. This was accompanied by the author, Iwashiro, sharing a special illustration:

Furthermore, the announcement states that voice actor Rikuya Yasuda will take on the role of protagonist Ageha Yoshina, while Mayuko Kazama will voice Sakurako Amamiya in the upcoming anime. Psyren will be directed by Katsumi Ono (Skeleton Knight in Another World) at animation studio Satelight, with Shin Yoshida (Naruto Shippuden) handling series composition. Character designs will be done by Akira Okuma, while the music will be composed by Takashi Ohmama, Tatsuhiko Saiki, and Shu Kanematsu.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Part 2 Reportedly Delayed To 2027

JJK season 3 has been a sensation, but the second part of the season could be delayed until 2027.

Per the official description of Psyren:

One day, high schooler Ageha Yoshina picks up a mysterious “red phone card” left behind in a public telephone booth. A few days later, his childhood friend and classmate, Sakurako Amamiya — who possessed the same card — suddenly vanishes without a trace. In search of her, Ageha finds himself drawn into the rumors surrounding a nationwide string of mysterious disappearances, said to be the work of a secret organization known only as “Psyren.” When he accesses the group, a deadly game begins—one that will change his fate forever.

Psyren TV anime also has a teaser trailer, which you can watch below:

After nearly 20 years of waiting, Psyren is finally getting the anime adaptation that many fans have been hoping for since its original manga run. Years later, after the Big Three cast their magic over the world of Shonen and Jujutsu Kaisen nears its end, the time has finally come for Psyren to step forward and cast its own magic. Although the exact premiere date of the TV anime Psyren remains unknown at the time of writing this article, it shouldn’t be long before the announcement is made.
