The finale of Daemons of the Shadow Realm is fast approaching, and there is plenty of ground left to cover. The anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s ongoing manga series has upped the pace in recent episodes, and with only five installments left, fans are wondering if Asa and Yuru’s fate will become clear before the final credits roll. The issue of trust has been raised, with friends having turned out to be foes and enemies potentially having the twins’ best interests at heart after all. The last episode was wildly fast-paced, with one beloved character potentially suffering an incurable injury.
In Episode 19 of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Asa came face to face with her fake persona from the village, along with Azami. While using the Yin-Yang daemons to whisk the pair away to a place where they could speak freely, she learns that Azami is the only one being held hostage, and she promptly makes it clear that the fake Asa needs to confess everything to Yuru when the chance arises. Speaking of her brother, Yuru meets Danji once again, and this time, he’s willing to hear his former friend out (after some fussing and a few harsh words). After another heartfelt reunion between the twins, the vibe of the episode shifts, with plenty of action rounding out the second half.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm: The Significance of Pairs
The story of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, one of 2026’s biggest anime, is driven by several themes, and the concept of pairs is the most important.
When Does Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 20 Come Out?
The Stage Is Being Set for One Heck of a Finale
Ivan’s ability to cut off Left’s arm stunned Dera, and as he and Yuru rush to find the assassin, Dera points out that capturing and questioning him alive may not be possible. The battle is still raging when the duo arrives, and while Left and Right have shown their incredible battle prowess in past episodes, Ivan is no pushover. The wildly well-animated fight was one of the most memorable of the series so far, but what was more impactful was Ivan seemingly confessing to having killed Yuru and Asa’s parents. This seems to be a red herring to irritate Yuru, but regardless, fans will have to be patient to learn the truth. Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 20, “The Hunted and the Hunter,” will be available to stream in Japanese with English subtitles on August 22, 2026, at 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EST.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm may not be on the same level as Fullmetal Alchemist, but the series has seen positive feedback since its anime adaptation began in April, currently sitting at 7.84 on MAL and 7.9 on IMDb. For the most part, audiences have been impressed by its consistent animation quality and Arakawa’s signature style, as well as its mysterious story, somewhat over-the-top violence, soundtrack, and characters. With only a few episodes left, many viewers are wondering if every loose thread can be properly tied up, or if a second season is in the works behind the scenes.

Yuru’s Daemons Could Be in Trouble
But Also, Hooray, Adorable Danji to the Rescue
Viewers were stunned to see Left being stabbed in the chest by one of Ivan’s powerful blades, and the character’s future now seems uncertain. She seems to have been poisoned, and it’s unclear whether she can be healed from this bizarre corruption. While Yuru’s daemons have seemed all but indestructible for the entirety of the series, perhaps there is a way to defeat them for good. Regardless, Episode 20 may explain more regarding Ivan’s strange trump card, and while Yuru has done his best to keep his anger in check, he may finally take the assassin on himself.
