8 Strongest Rookie Level Digimon, Ranked

Over the years, the Digimon franchise has accumulated a large pool of unique and memorable characters for fans to enjoy. While the fandom tends to focus on the Mega Level monsters, as they are not only some of the best designed but also the most powerful, other evolution stages tend to be ignored. Nonetheless, there is another category of creature that has received a lot of love from both the franchise itself and the fans: Rookie.

Most of the most recognizable faces of the franchise are a part of this evolutionary step, such as the beloved Agumon or the wild Guilmon. As such, every once in a while, Bandai, the company behind the series, sees it fit to release a member of this group that can compete against the most overpowered Digimon in existence. The strength of these small but powerful warriors has left a mark on fans of the anime and manga released throughout the franchise’s long history, as they are indeed mighty fighters.

Flamon

One of the most interesting aspects of Digimon Frontier, one of the best series in the franchise, was the introduction of the DigiSpirits. These ancient treasures allowed their users to transform into Digimon and fight their opponents directly, instead of being given a Digimon Partner to join their adventure. This resulted in some of the most exciting battles, but also quite a few terrifying experiences for the children. Takuya, leader of the team and wielder of the Fire Spirit, was a victim of such an event, causing him to reject his power and be transformed into Flamon.

This Rookie pre-evolution of the legendary warrior Agunimon has lost all his will to fight, preferring to avoid conflict at all costs. Yet, when his friends are in danger, or he is presented with no other choice, Flamon has demonstrated to be a force of nature, easily taking down Champion-level Digimon and fighting evenly with some low-tier Ultimates. Although his control of fire has decreased significantly when compared to his evolution, Flamon is still able to create and manipulate flames hot enough to badly hurt those hit by them.

Strabimon

Also known as the powered-down pre-evolution of the Legendary Warrior of Light, Wolfmon, Strabimon is a humanoid canine with a big ego and a great sense of pride. This form was the result of its evolution exhausting his energy being exhausted during a battle, causing his body to revert to a weaker form so that he could rest. Like the Warrior of Light himself, Strabimon is a lone warrior, preferring to act and be on his own rather than rely on the power of others to achieve victory.

Despite his humanoid appearance, Strabimon has a much greater connection to his animal side, causing him to often lose control and go on a rampage, as if he were a wild Digimon. When this occurs, Champion-level fighters are no match for his power, no matter if they are the strongest or the largest Digimon. Still, Strabimon has been shown to have a kinder side, which pushes him to fight against injustices and protect those weaker than him, utilizing his powerful light claws and destructive fangs.

Zubamon

To celebrate its more than two decades of history, the Digimon franchise decided to release a new creature that would commemorate this great achievement. This character ended up being none other than Zubamon, a cheerful and sharp-looking monster that hides a massive potential. He is a member of the Legend-Arms, a small group of Digimon born with the ability to transform their bodies into living weapons, each of them holding a destructive and impressive power.

Even though Zubamon’s true power shines when he is being wielded by another warrior while in sword form, he is also capable of accessing a portion of his hidden power during normal circumstances. His blade-like horn and dangerous claws are made of the legendary Digizoid metal, a material that can cut through almost anything. His skills in battle, agility, and speed make it so Zubamon can easily surpass Champion-level Digimon, even without being turned into one of the best anime swords ever.

Sistermon Blanc – Awakened Mode

While training who would become the most powerful of all the legendary Royal Knights, the brave Gankoomon came across two sisters fighting for their lives. These young maidens were the Sistermon siblings, the cheerful Noir, and the innocent Blanc. They became training partners for Hackmon, as well as loyal followers of Gankoomon. Thanks to their efforts, they were both able to unlock a powerful mode change, giving them a major boost in power, skill, and overall abilities.

Unlike her Champion Level sister, Blanc is still a Rookie, and the boost she gains while in Awakened mode is too much for her to handle. As such, her consciousness vanished while this form is active, being replaced by pure and efficient battle instincts. Sistermon Blanc Awakened is not only one of the most powerful Rookies in the series, but she is also one of the fastest characters in the Digimon franchise. It is said that she can traverse entire battlefields in seconds, using her immaculate fighting technique to take down opponents much stronger and resilient than her.

Hackmon

After seeing the chaos and pain caused by the evil villains of the Digimon franchise, Gankoomon decided to find a new warrior who could bring peace to the Digital World. As such, when he came across a lone and special DigiEgg with a latent potential hiding inside, he cared for it until the baby evolved into Hackmon. This earnest and brave Rookie is a natural-born hero, always looking for ways to help others and become stronger.

Due to the brutal training he was subjected to by his mentor, Hackmon grew into one of the most powerful Rookies ever by effort alone. His countless battles against powerful villains have given him power that far exceeds that of any Champion, as he has even been seen fighting Ultimate Level monsters, albeit always with his mentor nearby to help in case things go wrong. Hackmon’s true power truly manifests itself once it has evolved, as his final evolution, Jesmon, is one of the most powerful Digimon ever, but his Rookie form is still quite mighty.

Arkadimon – Rookie Mode

While most Digimon are created through data obtained from the link between the Human and Digital Worlds, some are artificially created for various purposes. Arkadimon, one of the main villains of one of the best Monster-Taming manga, V-Tamer, is one of these creatures. It was brought to life by the evil Deamon by combining bits of several fallen evil warriors. As such, it was born with a natural predisposition for violence and cruelty.

Arkadimon’s unique nature gave it the ability to manifest and utilize the weapons and abilities of all the Digimon it was created from. It could also absorb opponents after beating them in combat, increasing its size and power, as well as taking the power of its fallen enemies for itself. Even while still in rookie form, this dangerous monster was considered a major threat to the existence of the Digital World, as even Ultimate and Mega Level Digimon would struggle against its artificial power.

Lucemon – Child Mode

Long before humans ever made direct contact with the Digital World, the group of warriors known as the Angels was the one in charge of bringing peace to their home. Among them, existed a being of unimaginable power known as Lucemon, a kind and gentle soul that wished to see everyone enjoy life. After witnessing the atrocious acts committed by other Digimon, this once innocent creature allowed hatred to corrupt its core, becoming vengeful and cruel. His desire for peace was twisted into a goal of destroying the Digital World, becoming one of the best villains in the Digimon franchise.

Despite being just a rookie at the time, Lucemon was said to be the most powerful of all the Angel Digimon, capable of battling three of his former allies in combat without any issues. The Three Archangels, who are among the best fighters in the franchise, could do nothing against the might of this formidable monster. It took the combined power of all three Angel leaders and the 10 Legendary Warriors to seal Lucemon away, and it cost most of those who fought against him their lives.

Agumon – Burst Mode

With almost every new iteration of the Digimon anime, a new battle mechanic has been introduced. From fusions between monsters known as Jogress to the iconic Matrix Evolution from Tamers, there are plenty of ways for tamers to make their partner stronger during a difficult fight. One of the most epic is Burst Mode, which combines the will of the human with the innate power of the Digimon to allow the creature to go beyond the limits of their evolutionary stage.

Agumon, from the Digimon Data Squad anime, is one of only a handful of Rookies who can use this form. While using this ability, his body becomes engulfed in a red flame-like aura, shaped like the wings and tail of a dragon. Agumon was able to use this power to defeat and destroy the body of King Drassil, the supercomputer that oversees the Digital World and is the most powerful being in the franchise. As such, it is fair to say that Agumon Burst Mode would have no issues defeating a large majority of the Mega Level creatures in the series.
