A Massachusetts woman died Sunday after she was struck by a snow plow while walking with her husband during a snowstorm.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Agency parking lot in Norwood, Mass. when a pickup truck driver contracted to plow snow by the agency reversed into the couple, MBTA Transit Police said.
The woman, 51, was killed and her husband, 47, was rushed to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
She was later identified as Dr. Noriko Oshiro-Rapley. The husband was not publicly named.
The driver, 33, is reportedly cooperating with police.
No other information was released.
“This is an unimaginable, horrific incident,” MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said. “On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization we express our most sincere condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office is investigating with transit police, but it’s unclear if the driver will face any charges.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey described the situation as “heartbreaking.”
“I’ve spoken with her husband. It’s just devastating,” Healey said.
“It is heartbreaking and my heart goes out to their family,” she continued. “I was very, very, very sorry to see that.”
Norwood received nearly 17 inches of snow during the weekend’s storm.
