A man wanted by New Jersey authorities for kidnapping his girlfriend at gunpoint in Hoboken was arrested by the NYPD Thursday after a wild police chase on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, cops said.
The Hoboken Police Department provided the NYPD with a description of the 25-year-old suspect’s car and his license plate number as he was traveling over the Goethals Bridge on his way into Staten Island around 3:11 p.m., police said.
Officers with the NYPD picked up the suspect’s trail on the eastbound Belt Parkway as he came off the Verrazzano Bridge heading into Brooklyn around 20 minutes later, according to law enforcement.
Police captured the suspect near the Cropsey Ave. exit on the Belt, but not before a high-speed pursuit resulted in multiple car crashes on the highway, including one collision involving an NYPD patrol car, said police.
Five police officers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, cops said.
Officers found a woman in the suspect’s car, but it was not immediately clear if she was the kidnapping victim.
Charges remained pending Thursday.
