A 36-year-old woman’s teenage son discovered her dead with her throat slashed inside the family’s Brooklyn home, according to cops and the victim’s heartbroken husband.
Maria Santos Flores was discovered with a slash wound to her neck inside the two-story building near 85th St. and Fourth Ave. in Bay Ridge around 9:10 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
Santos’ 18-year-old son discovered her body just inside the building’s entrance when he went to open the door for his aunt, who is Santos’ sister, the victim’s devastated husband told the Daily News.
“Her sister came to visit. When he opened the door he saw her on the floor at the bottom of the stairs and they called the ambulance,” Santos’s husband, Santos Hernandez, 35, said.
Hernandez was at work in a warehouse when his sister-in-law called and told him about his wife’s death, he said. Hernandez was struggling to understand what happened to his wife, saying police had not told him anything.
“Police said they tell me later, they said they are getting information,” he said.

Santos, who was married to Hernandez for three years, lived on the second floor of the building. She had two children, an 18-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter. Her son was too distraught to speak on Sunday.
No arrests have been made.
A neighbor, who gave his name as Luis, said he heard a single scream pierce the air around 8 a.m. on Saturday. “Yesterday in the morning I listened to the scream,” said Luis, 32, said Sunday.
“Maybe four seconds, five seconds, only one scream. No more,” Luis said. The scream came from the front of the building, near the entrance, Luis said.
Santos was a “good woman” who worked in a bar, Luis said. “It’s a nice family,” he added. “No problems. The husband is a good person. They take it easy.”
A woman in the building who asked not to be named was shocked by the tragedy, which she said was “not normal” for the area. She described the Santos family as calm and “awesome neighbors.”
“It’s really sad,” she said. “I feel for them. It’s so hard. I can’t imagine what they’re going through.”
