On February 3, 2025, in One Piece Chapter 1138, released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #10, Eiichiro Oda unveiled one of the most significant pieces of lore in the story through the ancient mural of the Harley. Through this mural, Oda unveiled some of the most important bits of information about the war that unfolded over the previous two Worlds, including the Void Century. At the same time, the author also introduced all of us to a plethora of Gods that have existed in the One Piece world and played a significant role in these wars, including the Sun God Nika, who has now returned as Monkey D. Luffy.
Among all these powerful godly entities, Eiichiro Oda also sets up a 3,000-year-old Mythical Zoan entity from the First World of One Piece, known as the Serpent of Hellfire. So far, it remains unknown as to who the Serpent of Hellfire is, where it is located currently, and what role it is going to play in the Final Saga, but sooner or later, it is likely to show up.
One Piece Chapter 1138 Officially Set Up The Mythical Zoan Of The Serpent Of Hellfire From 3000 Years Ago In The First World
One Piece Chapter 1138 is quite possibly one of the most lore-heavy chapters in the entire story written by Oda over 29 years. This chapter introduced the Harley to us and, through it, told the tale of the world of One Piece being split into three different Eras or “Worlds.” The “First World” is an era that happened way over a thousand years ago. Given that One Piece Chapter 1144, released officially on March 31, 2025, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #18, showcased a laboratory in the land of Elbaf from over 3,000 years ago, it is likely that this was the “First World” that was spoken of in the Harley and the time when the first Sun God, Nika, descended upon the world.
“The narrative is split into three distinct sections. It is said that the Third World refers to our present-day world, meaning it is a kind of prophecy.” — Saul explains the Three Worlds of the Harley, One Piece Chapter #1138
According to the Harley, during this time period, the Sun God Nika descended upon the world once cruelty, slavery, and oppression reached tremendous heights. All these things resulted from humans finding a tremendous power source for the creation of which various slaves were used. Due to the prayers of these slaves, the Sun God Nika eventually descended, and the Earth God, who most certainly stood as an enemy to the Sun God according to the Harley, then collaborated with the Serpent of Hellfire and laid ruin to the whole world in a catastrophic battle. This battle was of such a scale that the entire world of One Piece was completely destroyed, paving the way for the “Second World” or the time period that we know now as “The Void Century.”
“The Earth God was enraged, and together with its serpent of Hellfire, shrouded the earth in death and darkness. And they will never meet.” — The first mention of the Serpent of Hellfire, One Piece Chapter #1138
Curiously enough, the Void Century does not mention the Serpent of Hellfire, so it remains unclear as to what exactly happened to it. The Harley depicts the Serpent of Hellfire as a giant, monstrous calamity with the capability of spitting fire. Who exactly the Serpent of Hellfire is remains unknown. Based on how Vegapunk described how One Piece Devil Fruits work in Chapter 1169, we know that through the imagination of some individual, the Serpent of Hellfire can easily be born as a Devil Fruit. In fact, the chances are that this Devil Fruit exists in the world of One Piece right now and is lying dormant, waiting for someone to consume it.

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is setting up the reveal of Imu’s Devil God form in Elbaf arc, which was first teased in Chapter 1085, 3 years ago.
Why The Serpent Of Hellfire Will Appear With The Earth God Teased In One Piece Chapter 287
The Serpent of Hellfire is highly likely to show up in the final stretch of One Piece, and this is because all the godly entities mentioned in the Harley are going to be extremely important. The Harley specifically mentions four Gods of the One Piece world, and these are:
The Sun God, who we know to be Luffy.
The Sea God, who is most certainly Poseidon, or in other words, Shirahoshi.
The Earth God, whose identity remains unknown at this point.
The Forest God, whose identity we do not know either.
The Elbaf Arc of One Piece introduced the idea of the Rain God Zaza in One Piece Chapter 1182, on May 10, 2026, in Shueisha’s WSJ Issue #24, although it remains unknown in terms of identity. The Elbaf mural also showcased the Ancient Giant who resembled Loki and depicted the War God of Elbaf, Nidhoggr. Finally, there is also the Devil God of the One Piece world, Nerona Imu, showcased in the Elbaf Mural. Clearly, all the Gods mentioned in the Harley narration have already shown up, or are starting to show up in the Final Saga of One Piece, which leaves behind the Serpent of Hellfire, a Mythical creature from a 3,000-year-old era with tremendous firepower at its disposal and the capabilities of destroying the world.

Just like all the other Gods mentioned in the Harley in One Piece Chapter 1138, the Serpent of Hellfire will also show up. In fact, in One Piece Chapter 287, all four main Gods of the One Piece world, that is, the Sun God, the Rain God, the Earth God, and the Forest God, were mentioned for the very first time. Slowly but steadily, these gods are being revealed one after another. Given that the Earth God is intrinsically tied to the Serpent of Hellfire, as was stated clearly in the Harley, these two are likely to make their debut together.
