A Manhattan therapist has been charged with raping his 17-year-old transgender patient during a session at his Midtown office, and may have other victims, officials said.
Remington Yhap’s website biography said his psychotherapy focus is LGBTQ+ mental health and depression, and it was in that capacity that he was seeing the teenage patient, according to prosecutors.
It was during a June 15 session at Yhap’s Sixth Ave. office that the therapist penetrated the victim’s vagina with his penis, and received and gave oral sex, according to court papers.
Prosecutors said Yhap, 47, also showed the victim photos of nude people and asked him several times if he was masturbating when he was 16.
Yhap started seeing the patient last September.
He was arrested on July 29 on three counts of rape, plus a single count of endangering the welfare of a child, officials said.
The defendant was arraigned and pleaded not guilty. He was released on $75,000 cash bail, and is due back in court Oct. 1.
“This investigation is ongoing,” a spokeswoman for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “The Manhattan D.A.’s Office encourages any survivors of sexual assault to call the Office’s Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau at 212-335-9373.”
Yhap was a therapist at Liberation Psychotherapy, which encourages active listening, empathy and unconditional positive regard, according to the company’s website.
