An NYPD detective remained hospitalized and on the mend Saturday as police continue their manhunt for a Bronx duo who stabbed him seven times during a savage robbery.
Cops are hoping the public can help identify the suspects, who fled on a motorized bike after ripping the gold chain off of the 33-year-old detective’s neck early Friday afternoon, cops said.
The detective was retrieving something from the trunk of his black Mustang parked in front of a single-family home on E. 208th St. near Steuben Ave. in Norwood around 2 p.m. when the pair crept up behind him, law enforcement sources said.
The victim was slashed and stabbed up to seven times, sustaining wounds to his neck and torso, as he fought off the would-be robbers, sources said.

The off-duty cop gave the muggers a chase, pursuing them for about two blocks to Rochambeau Ave. near E. 206th St., where he collapsed.
“He got stabbed, and he was chasing the guy,” said a witness, who asked that his name be withheld. “He chased the guy, and that’s where he collapsed, in front of the building where I was sitting. We know him from the neighborhood, so we know he’s a cop.”
Video obtained by the Daily News shows police assisting EMS in lifting the wounded detective off the street, where blood can be seen pooling along the curb, and onto a gurney.

Medics rushed the victim to Jacobi Hospital, where he’s expected to survive. Both Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Mamdani visited him bedside.
“I visited the detective and his family at Jacobi Hospital with Police Commissioner Tisch,” Mamdani said in a post on X. “He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery.”
“I am confident that the NYPD will identify and apprehend the suspects and that the people responsible will be held to account.”

Initially, it was believed the suspects left empty-handed but cops say they made off with the detective’s chain.
Police are looking for a man who was last seen shirtless, wearing black sweatpants, while the other suspect sported a hoodie, black sweatpants and black sneakers.

The victim’s Mustang could be seen on the street with its trunk open Friday evening, with the victim’s backpack lying nearby on the ground.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477)
