Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development at Ubisoft, as a staff member confirmed that they have been working on the project in a support role throughout some of 2026. Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first announced in 2008 and is still without a release date.
After languishing in development hell for years, the current iteration of Beyond Good and Evil 2 was unveiled at E3 2017. Ubisoft confirmed that the upcoming title is a prequel to the original Beyond Good and Evil and that the game would require a consistent Internet connection to play its single-player and co-op modes. In the ensuing years, Ubisoft has largely kept silent about the upcoming game. Given that Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been in and out of active development for over two decades, it has since passed Duke Nukem Forever as the game with the longest development cycle.

Months after Beyond Good and Evil 2 director Fawzi Mesmar confirmed the game was still being worked on, the project received a more subtle update on social media. Ubisoft Bordeaux’s Lead Writer and Associate Narrative Director Rik Godwin revealed on Bluesky that he has been working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 for some of 2026 in a support/consultant role. Although Godwin was given permission to confirm his role with the project, he did not reveal any further information about the project. Since joining the studio in November 2023, Godwin has worked on Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Ghost Recon Wildlands’ Last Rites expansion. Ubisoft Bordeaux is one of a few support studios working on BG&E2 and is located northwest of Ubisoft Montpellier, the main studio behind its development.
The last time Ubisoft teased Beyond Good and Evil 2 was in 2024’s Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition. The anniversary release offered an exclusive treasure hunt mission that served as a narrative link to the upcoming entry. The mission offered a deeper look into the childhood of BG&E protagonist Jade. As of this writing, Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is currently available at a discounted price of $11.99 on multiple storefronts, including Steam and the Ubisoft Store.
In January 2026, Ubisoft conducted a wave of layoffs that resulted in the closure of some studios across the globe. The layoffs also resulted in the cancellation of games such as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Despite the circumstances, Beyond Good and Evil 2 survived Ubisoft’s cuts and remained in development. With Godwin and other developers now on the project, it remains to be seen when Ubisoft will share more details about Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Given that the original Beyond Good and Evil is considered one of Ubisoft’s best games, Beyond Good and Evil 2 has the unenviable task of living up to the legacy of a cult classic. With no release date for BG&E2 in sight, time will tell when gamers will finally get their hands on one of the industry’s longest-running mysteries.
