Black Clover enjoyed an exciting run from 2015 to 2026. Throughout this run, we were introduced to some of the most exciting shonen villains of the last decade, those being the Zogratis siblings who formed the Dark Triad. The Dark Triad were powerful foes that had to be taken down for long-lasting peace in the world.
Through Yuki Tabata’s new Black Clover release, known as Perfect Grimoire, which was officially released on August 4, 2026, we finally learned of their pseudo-immortality. Through their contracts with their powerful devils, the Zogratis siblings had stopped aging. Now that they have lost their devils, they must have become mortals again. True immortality, however, was achieved by Lucius Zogratis before his fated defeat against Asta and Yuno.
Yuki Tabata Reveals Immortal Mages With Dante, Vanica, And Zenon
Black Clover started its run in 2015 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12. Back then, we would have never guessed the terrifyingly powerful antagonist that Yuki Tabata would eventually introduce in the story. As the story of Black Clover continued, we were introduced to one overpowered enemy after another. In Black Clover Chapter 227, released on November 2, 2019, in WSJ Issue #49, we were introduced to what would become one of the most overpowered and feared antagonists of the whole series: the Dark Triad, a group of powerful foes who used to rule over Yuno’s birthplace, the Spade Kingdom.
The Dark Triad is made up of three Zogratis siblings: Dante Zogratis, Vanica Zogratis, and Zenon Zogratis. All three of them are powerful in their own right, and they gave us high-octane battles by taking on the heroes of the series. Their powers come in large part from the Devil Contracts they have made:
These contracts powered them up to new levels. Most recently, in Black Clover’s new guidebook, Perfect Grimoire, released on August 4, 2026, Yuki Tabata revealed other perks acquired from their contracts. Yuki Tabata confirmed that after selling their souls to the devil, these three acquired what could be described as pseudo-immortality. This then explains why Yuki Tabata had to hide these characters’ ages for so long in the manga. Either way, it has since been revealed through Perfect Grimoire that Dante is physically only 23, even though he has been alive for 40 years. Vanica’s real age is 37, but is physically only 20. Zenon, the youngest, has a 19-year-old body, but his soul is 36 years old. In theory, these three could have lived for an extremely long time and not died from aging, seeing as their body had been frozen in time.
How The Dark Triad Lost Their Pseudo Immortality
For quite a long time, the Dark Triad enjoyed powerful quirks stemming from their Devil Contracts. Not only were they given powerful magic attributes on top of their natural ones, but they were also made into pseudo-immortals. However, these contracts did not last forever. Since their introduction in the Black Clover story, these Contracts were broken after their defeat, and in turn, we can assume that their immortality has vanished as well. The triad went on to lose their devil contracts when the Spade Kingdom raid unfolded in the manga. In the manga, Zenon, the youngest sibling with the power of Beelzebub, was defeated by Yuno, who had to awaken his Star Magic and finally tap into his Saint Spirit to land a final blow, destroying Zenon’s devil heart.

Black Clover Unveils The Mage God in New Release
Black Clover author Yuki Tabata reveals the unequivocal mage god in the new August release.
Vanica was defeated by Noelle, but shortly after, the Devil Magicula manifested herself. She was also defeated by Noelle Silva. Noelle showed her might in this battle and took down this high-ranking Devil with the help of Nozel Silva. Meanwhile, the oldest sibling of the Dark Triad, Dante, with the power of Lucifero, went down in his battle against Magna, before being dealt the final blow by Jack the Ripper.
All these fights were heated, and they led to the Zogratis siblings being left in a death-like state. Their bodies were preserved and later used by Lucius to gain new heights of power. Many fans assume they are officially dead by the end of the manga; however, Yuki Tabata might have implied their survival on August 4, 2026. At the end of Black Clover, figures that look like Dante and Vanica are spotted in the background, and while we never see their faces, it might be the familiar villains. That said, if they’re still alive, they have lost their immortality and will go on to age normally and die of old age now.
How Lucius Achieved The Ultimate Immortality In Black Clover
The Dark Triad, made up of Dante, Vanica, and Zenon, went on to achieve momentary semi-immortality via the Devil Contracts. However, there is one mage in the series who can be said to have achieved actual immortality. This individual is Lucius Zogratis, the oldest of the Zogratis siblings who inhabits the same body as Julius Novachrono. Lucius was the final antagonist of Black Clover, and his power surpassed all others. After the defeat of his siblings, he preserved their bodies and grimoires and ended up acquiring their magical attributes to power himself up. Thus, Lucius wielded both his own Soul Magic and the magic of his siblings, notably Body, Blood, and Bones Magic.
Lucius became a practically unbeatable foe, thanks to the powers he inherited from his siblings, and he was able to achieve actual immortality. He even stated that after him, no more Wizard Kings would be needed, as he intended to live and reign forever. This was primarily because of his Soul Magic, which, when combined with his siblings’ magic powers, gave him the power to constantly heal and regenerate himself with a never-aging body.
Lucius even acquired the power to resurrect the dead, as seen when he used abilities to bring back Noelle’s mother, Acier Silva, and turned her into a Paladin. Of course, even Lucius’ own immortal reign has ended since. In the final arc of Black Clover, Lucius was eventually defeated by the duo of Asta and Yuno, who took him down to bring back peace to the world of Black Clover. Lucius was defeated in chapter 389, and this was quite easily one of the most exciting parts of the series, proving that even the immortal mage of the Clover Kingdom could not stand up to the prodigies of the new era, Asta and Yuno.
Black Clover is available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
