Written and illustrated by Jinushi, the romantic comedy slice-of-life manga Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You kicked off its serialization in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine in 2022. The series follows Sasaki, an overworked company man, who finds some comfort each day in Yamada, a cheerful local grocery store cashier. However, one day, he works late, and upon finding that Yamada has already gone home, he meets a mysterious woman who invites him to smoke behind the store. The ongoing series has found massive popularity in Japan for its familiar tone and set of circumstances, as Jinushi previously worked in customer service and is intimately familiar with the ins and outs of daily life in retail.
