The latest installment of Daemons of the Shadow Realm answered a few more questions, but there is plenty of mysteries to solve and battles to fight as the twins’ story continues. While Yuru is still keeping his cards close to his chest, Asa has begun wearing her heart on her sleeve, eager to kindle a deep relationship with her long-lost brother. The series will (thankfully) run for two consecutive cours, and its 24-episode run may be enough to cover the most beloved story beats from Hiromu Arakawa’s popular manga and flesh out its characters properly. Yuru’s most terrifying battle looms as Episode 9 approaches, and it remains unclear whether he’ll be able to escape death for the sake of his own powerful, fated new ability.
In Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 8, the fragile peace between the Kagemori and Tadera Clans began to unravel. Yuru has been tasked with confronting the grim reality of what may be required to garner the power of Seal following the shocking revelations about Asa’s own death and her subsequent acquisition of the power of Break. Perhaps most impactful, however, was the heartfelt moment in which Asa reveals that their parents did not abandon Yuru willingly, leading to a clumsy hug and the most emotional moment of the series so far. There are plenty more episodes to come, giving the siblings many more chances to bond and find common ground. However, the danger that lurks in the background may impede a happy ending.

When Does Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 9 Come Out?
Yuru Takes the Path Less Traveled
Much of Episode 8 was dedicated to much-needed exposition, with action taking a back seat. This won’t be the case for long, however, as Yuru has declared his intention not to join the Kagemori clan or hide from any impending danger, making him a massive target for those eager to gain his now unawakened power. In the preview for Episode 9, viewers see Yuru, along with his demons Right and Left, exploring more of the modern world, and preparing to take on whoever is following them throughout Japan. If his parents are alive, Yuru is going to save them, and he’s going to get his answers, and take his revenge, along the way. Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 9, “Embrace and Whisper,” will be available to stream in Japanese with English subtitles on May 30, 2026, at 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EST.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm continues to see positive reviews from viewers and critics alike, largely for its animation, use of color, soundtrack, and characters. The series, along with Witch Hat Atelier, is one of the most applauded releases of the Spring 2026 anime season, currently boasting a score of 7.99 on MAL and an 8.2 on IMDb. The first episode has the highest score on both fronts at the time of writing, with episodes four and six trailing just behind the adaptation’s premiere in terms of feedback. Somewhat surprisingly, despite its emotional conclusion, Episode 8 didn’t resonate as much with viewers, sitting at a 7.8 on IMDb.

As Asa and Yuru Get Closer, Things Get More Hazardous
It Certainly Feels Like Asuma Is up to Something
Episode 9 of Daemons of the Shadow Realm is only days away, and fans are making predictions about what the new installment may hold. One character of note is Asuma, whose haunting smile and hard-to-read features have raised suspicions regarding his motives and past actions. The emotional dynamic of the overall story was also changed for good following Episode 8’s finale, which showed Asa embracing her brother and repeating her dedication to him. As Yuru now understands the truth about his parents and their decision to leave the village, his next steps will be vital, and one wrong move could see his journey end before it even began.
While Daemons of the Shadow Realm will march on for two consecutive cours, other major Spring 2026 anime are beginning to wind down, including Witch Hat Atelier, Marriagetoxin, and The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King. The Summer 2026 lineup is already looking solid, promising the return of The Saga of Tanya the Evil, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, and Grand Blue Dreaming.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
