Dragon Ball Super Manga’s 2026 Comeback Gets an Official Update in V-Jump

The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus for well over a year now. Following the release of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104 last March, Toyotarou’s manga quietly went on break and has yet to return. 2026 is shaping up to be the biggest year for Dragon Ball since Dragon Ball Super originally premiered in 2025.

The Dragon Ball Super anime is getting a remake, with a sequel set to follow, and plenty of games on the way. V-Jump has been updating Dragon Ball fans on the Super manga’s hiatus for months now, with no major changes, but the magazine’s most recent reveal in the upcoming June issue is more than meets the eye. For the first time in a long time, there’s actually real hope of the Dragon Ball Super manga coming back this year.

All Signs Point to the Dragon Ball Super Manga Returning in 2026

According to the June V-Jump issue, “The latest chapter of Dragon Ball is on break.” This is the same news fans have gotten for months now, but there’s quite a bit of evidence suggesting the Dragon Ball Super manga’s comeback is actually on the way. Back in March, Toyotarou updated his X bio to read, “Everything is for the return of the series,” more or less confirming that the Dragon Ball Super manga will return and he’s actively working on the series’ next saga.

The Official Dragon Ball Site is also currently hosting a poll where fans can vote for their favorite Dragon Ball Super cover. The poll will end in August, with an official livestream from Toyotarou where he’ll announce the winner and draw a new cover for the manga. This would be the perfect setting for Toyotarou to officially announce the Dragon Ball Super manga’s return. Not just that, new spine art for the Dragon Ball Super manga was leaked last month, confirming that Toyotarou has drawn art for Dragon Ball Super Volume 25.

Every volume of the Dragon Ball Super manga collects four chapters, which means that some version of Dragon Ball Super Chapters 105 through 108 must exist, otherwise Toyotarou would have no reason to draw spine art for a volume after 24.

Black Frieza is Coming

There’s only one direction for the Dragon Ball Super manga to go next, and all roads lead to Black Frieza. Black Frieza defeated both True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta at the end of the Granolah the Survivor Saga. Goku and Vegeta have been training their hardest ever since, dedicating all their time in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to growing stronger. By the end of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, the Z-Fighters are the most powerful they’ve ever been thanks to the united front of Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Gohan Beast, Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, and Orange Piccolo.

All five warriors are strong enough to rival Black Frieza, but Frieza himself has become an enemy powerful enough to kill even the Gods. The best thing Black Frieza can do to establish himself as a real threat and raise the stakes at this point is kill Beerus himself. With the God of Destruction of Universe 7 out of the way, Goku and the rest of the Z-Fighters won’t have anyone to bail them out – even fusing into Gogeta may not be enough to stop Frieza if Beerus can be taken out. The longer the Dragon Ball Super ​​​​​​​manga takes to come back, the more build up there’ll be for the Black Frieza Saga. With the anime’s remake set to release this Fall and Toyotarou ready to talk to fans in August, this is the perfect time to announce the manga’s official comeback.
