The Bear detector is one of the best tools players can use for artifact hunting early in STALKER 2, and you can get one as soon as you leave the Lesser Zone by heading to the Concrete Forest POI in the Cement Factory region. There’s a maintenance room with an underground entrance hatch on the northeastern perimeter of the Concrete Forest, and if you explore the mutant-infested underbelly of this facility in STALKER 2, you’ll find a stash containing a Bear detector and a bunch of other useful items.

STALKER 2: Early Bear Detector Location
After dealing with the lockdown in Zalissya, you can head straight toward the Concrete Forest. Go to the marked area on the map above to find a maintenance room and an NPC named Mytryk Genius, who will ask you for help retrieving his gun as part of the Uninvited Guests side quest. If you haven’t done this side quest yet, you might as well do so, since the stash containing the Bear detector is in the same area.
Enter the maintenance room, go down the stairs, and once you reach the sewers, prepare yourself for a swarm of Rodents. They die easily to most bullet calibers, so ditch your shotgun and use a high-capacity gun like a pistol or assault rifle. Once the Rodents are dead, turn right from the entrance of the sewer, then follow the tunnel.
Next, you’ll arrive at a machine room with a couple of Burers inside. These guys are telepathic, and they’ll use both random objects and guns to attack you. Burers die easily enough as long as you shoot them while the blue force field around them isn’t active.
Burer’s can knock your guns out of your hands and throw back any grenades you chuck at them. Funny enough, they can’t do the same if you’re using Skif’s signature PM pistol. Try using that if you don’t want to deal with their gun-stealing shenanigans.
Do your best not to get shot or pummeled by furniture, then look for a bag under a big wooden pallet underneath the stairs that lead to the floor above. Loot that stash, and you’ll find your Bear detector.
Now, if you want to help Mytryk Genius with his gun problem, head up the stairs, then look for a box on your left once you enter the hallway. There, you’ll find the Decider, a modified Fora-221 assault rifle that deals slightly more damage than the regular variants. Give it to Mytryk, or keep it for yourself if you don’t have a better 5.45x39mm rifle.
Bear Detector Overview
Unlike the other two early detectors in STALKER 2, the Bear points you in the direction of any nearby artifacts. The visual indicator on this detector makes artifact hunting much easier, but the Bear detector only has an effective range of 50 meters.
For serious treasure hunters, I recommend having both a Hilka and Bear detector in your inventory until you get a Veles or Svarog detector. Run around using the Hilka to find artifacts from a distance, then switch to the Bear for easier pinpointing.
