Every month, PlayStation players await Sony’s announcement of what the next new PS Plus games will be. Without fail, this news is always exciting. Also, occasionally, it can elicit a mild reaction of disappointment.
Sony launched the new era of PlayStation Plus in June 2022, combining the previous version with PS Now. Although the latter subscription service was around for a long time, PS Now struggled to get over its early negative reputation, so a revamp was needed to wipe the slate clean. PS Plus has been way more successful and reliable.
PS Plus is split into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential unlocks PlayStation’s online features, along with providing a couple of free monthly games. Along with Essential’s offerings, Extra grants access to hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games; meanwhile, Premium extends the lineup to include older consoles. Each month, Sony adds a bunch of new PS Plus games to each tier, including first-party PS5 exclusives, third-party juggernauts, PS VR2 games, and indie darlings. Some months are better than others, but they all tend to include a couple of standouts. What are all the monthly games that have been added to PS Plus?

Free PS Plus Essential Games For May 2026
EA Sports FC 26 (PS5/PS4), Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5), Nine Sols (PS5/PS4)
These games will be available between May 5 and June 1.
The PlayStation Plus free games lineup for May 2026 is probably the strongest of the year so far, which isn’t saying a lot, but it is still something. The Essential tier has felt like an afterthought at times, but all three titles included this month are either solid or smart picks for a subscription service. They are all relatively recent releases that garnered positive (or loud) receptions and, combined, they cover quite a wide spectrum of genres. Let’s go through them.
EA Sports FC 26 – Simultaneously the headline act AND the least interesting May 2026 PS Plus game, EA’s annual soccer game always comes to PS Plus at some point of the year, typically when European football is coming to an end. FC 26 is a fine enough game, but it has all the criticisms that have become customary of the franchise. At this point, everyone who wanted to engage with Ultimate Team joined the ecosystem a long time ago, and the only subscribers who might try FC 26 are those who are kind of interested in the single-player, but not enough to actually buy it.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – Probably the actual most exciting game of May 2026, Wuchang is a rock-solid Soulslike that sparked a post-launch controversy when edits where done to the story and a few sections. I am not going to go into that complicated side of things, but I will say that the game is still quite fun in its current state, with the gameplay being among the better entries in the series. The level design is great and arguably better than some of the more acclaimed releases in the genre.
Nine Sols – If FC 26 is the biggest PS Plus game of May 2026, and Wuchang is the most exciting, then Nine Sols is the best. A side-scrolling action-platformer that utilizes a deflection-heavy combat system inspired by Sekiro, Nine Sols is a gorgeous, challenging, and rewarding indie game that represents the medium at its best. 2D aren’t for everyone, and that is perfectly fine, but I sincerely recommend giving this a try if you are remotely into action games.
May 2026 Value: If somebody were to purchase FC 26, Nine Sols, and Wuchang at full price, they would spend $149.97. Obviously, they have all gone on sale before, so you could have gotten them for far cheaper than that.

Formerly known as just PS Plus, Essential is the minimum required to play online multiplayer on the PS5 or PS4. Every month, the tier rotates a couple of new free PS Plus games. While these titles are only available to purchase for roughly a month, anyone who picks them up can continue to play them after that point as long as they have an active subscription.

PS Plus Extra includes a catalog featuring hundreds of games. Extra focuses exclusively on PS5 and PS4 titles, and each month expands the existing library with roughly 10 to 20 new additions. Unlike Essential, PS Plus Extra games are available indefinitely, although some could be removed after spending a few months on the service.

The Thaumaturge (PS5)
As has become customary in 2026, PS Plus Extra’s lineup is all-around solid, offering a good mix of big names, indie darlings, and divisive releases that are perfect for subscription services. May 2026’s headline acts are Star Wars Outlaws and Red Dead Redemption 2. The latter is, obviously, one of the greatest games of all time, and it is a must-play for anybody into Westerns, open-worlds, or just good writing. However, RDR2 was part of PS Plus Extra a few years ago, before leaving toward the end of 2024. Its return is a huge deal, but the excitement is lessened due to being a repeat.
Star Wars Outlaws is, in my opinion, the standout addition of the month, even if I don’t think it is better than RDR2. With The Mandalorian and Grogu coming to theaters on May 22, this game coming to PS Plus makes complete and utter sense, especially since it fits the vibe of that series relatively well. More importantly, Star Wars Outlaws has a positive but slightly mixed reputation that might have discouraged people who are on the fence from picking it up. Now, they can just give it a try via PlayStation Plus, and they could end up having a superb time. At least, I did.
The rest of the lineup deserves mention as well, and there are no weak links. The Thaumaturge is a turn-based RPG set in the early 1900s that features strong dialogue-focused writing and a sense of mystery since it tells a detective story. A pretty easy recommendation for fans of the genre. If you prefer action or Soulslikes, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Enotria could be the games for you. Now, the former is a Soulslite at best rather than a full-blown entry into the genre, and its open-world is polarizing. Still, a solid addition to PS Plus. Enotria takes inspiration from Italian culture, and it is a (relatively) traditional example of a Soulslike, albeit with a low-budget indie feel. The game launched in a rough state, but it is much better now.
Bramble: The Mountain King and Broken Sword are excellent games, too, with the former being a puzzle-exploration title with a hint of horror. The latter is a point-and-click adventure game, along with being a remake of a 1990s cult classic.

PS Plus Premium includes everything available on Sony’s service. Along with Essential and Extra’s games and benefits, this tier includes a classic catalog of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, along with some PS4 remasters. Premium’s monthly additions have been inconsistent so far, and it is not unusual for a month to go by with barely any classic additions to the tier.
Although most lineups contain only a handful of classics, PS Plus Premium has been steadily enhancing its old-school library, particularly when it comes to PSP and PS1 releases. The games might not all be bona fide masterpieces, but the selection covers both well-known and obscure properties.
New PS Plus Premium May 2026 Game: Time Crisis
As has been the case for quite some time, May 2026’s PS Plus Premium game lineup consists of a single title: Time Crisis. The classic arcade shooter is coming to the PS5 and PS4.
