Another Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls datamine seemingly reveals another possible DLC character in the game’s files alongside classic costumes and a Battle Pass. Following a jam-packed open beta, there’s been a lot of excitement ahead of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls August launch. Despite a rougher than expected launch on PC, fans are excited to see how the game continues to evolve over time.
With the game now available, fans continue to wonder what ArcSys has planned to continue growing the game in the months and years to come. Prior to launch, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls announced Phoenix Cyclops as the first of four promised characters to come post launch. Naturally, the community began to theorize what other characters could make the game’s roster, though it seems as if Arc System Works may be planning to add unique twists to each one rather than just add a straightforward version. Popular theories thus far have included some version of Thor (possibly Jane Foster), Agent Venom, or even the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer. Datamining has also seemingly uncovered potential new additions.

New screenshots of found files tease the possible addition of Rocket Raccoon, with a note that says “Kamala is delighted to see Groot and Rocket (though be careful with the look, as he’s future DLC).” Obviously, fans should take the leaks with a grain of salt for now, though it does seem like players will be seeing plenty of post-launch support if any of this is accurate.

The leak also reveals new costumes are being readied for certain characters, with a list of Classic and Legacy outfits mentioned. Neoxon highlighted that the files indicate costumes coming for Hulk, Spider-Man, Green Goblin, and Dr. Doom, potentially continuing the CLassic Costume trend started by Iron Man and Captain America inside the Marvel Tokon Ultimate Edition. It stands to reason that the Hulk will lose his bone armor to sport a classic look, while Spider-Man will also be in his primary blue and red.

The final piece of the datamine was a screenshot showing lines of code for some sort of Battle Pass. Fans are assuming this will be coming sooner than later, likely allowing players to spend money to unlock additional bonuses by progressing through various levels. Specific rewards weren’t revealed, but certain lines of code refer to things like Avatar Equipment, costume tickets, stickers, and emotes to name a few. Battle Passes are nothing new to fighting games and Guilty Gear Strive also recently added its own Battle Pass system with the launch of Season 5, so the studio is familiar with the process.
Again, it’s worth taking this stuff with a grain of salt, as datamines have impacted other Arc System Works games as well but haven’t always been a good indicator of what’s right around the corner. For example, while Jam Kuradoberi was added to Guilty Gear Strive for Season 5, she was initially found in the game’s files very early on, leaving many to assume she’d be part of the Season 1 or 2 DLC selection. In actuality, it took about 5 years for her to officially join the roster, alongside Robo-Ky. While Rocket could be a planned fighter that eventually joins the roster, it could be much further down the road than expected.
