Ghost of Yotei has reportedly cleared 2 million sales, hitting that milestone approximately three days into its release. The figure suggests that Ghost of Yotei’s early sales are nearly on par with its predecessor, which had a record-breaking launch in 2020.
Ghost of Yotei was released on October 2. Like Ghost of Tsushima, the latest title from Sony subsidiary Sucker Punch Productions debuted as a PlayStation exclusive.
Ghost of Yotei Reportedly Already Made Over $140 Million
As of October 5, the game had reportedly passed 2 million sales. That’s according to a congratulatory social media post attributed to Stephen Lin, PlayStation China’s director of commercial and sales operations. Even assuming all sales were of the Standard Edition of Ghost of Yotei, priced at $69.99, that would still equate to approximately $140 million in revenue. Because it is a first-party PS5 exclusive, there are no platform fees to deduct from that figure. Actual revenue is likely higher, as PlayStation also offered $79.99 Digital Deluxe and $249.99 Collector’s Editions.
Ghost of Yotei Likely Already Made Back Its Development Budget Twice Over
In a September 2025 interview with Game File’s Stephen Totilo, Sucker Punch co-founder and studio head Brian Fleming said the 2025 title’s budget was similar to that of Ghost of Tsushima, indicating that Ghost of Yotei cost around $60 million to make. With 2 million units sold, the game would have recouped its development budget roughly twice over by now. However, Sony’s actual profits are ostensibly still below the 100% mark, as the $60-million figure excludes marketing costs, which are likely substantial, given Ghost of Yotei’s positioning as the company’s flagship release for Q4 2025.
Ghost of Yotei’s sales presently appear to be tracking slightly behind Ghost of Tsushima. The 2020 title cleared 2.4 million sales in its first 72 hours on the market, according to official figures shared by Sony. That performance made Ghost of Tsushima the fastest-selling first-party original IP on the PlayStation 4. Because it launched just ahead of the next console generation, there were no other first parties to realistically challenge it, which effectively secured its PS4 record for all time.

The lifetime sales of Ghost of Tsushima sat at 13 million as of September 2024, with Sucker Punch confirming as much in a New York Times interview. Though Ghost of Yotei’s launch appears to have been slightly weaker, the game may still achieve a similar level of long-term commercial success. Ghost of Tsushima saw a significant boost from a successful Steam release, which is estimated to have contributed over 2 million additional units to its lifetime sales tally. Although its sequel has not yet been confirmed for other platforms, Sony’s recent track record suggests a Ghost of Yotei PC version may only be a question of time.
