Hades 2 Is a Huge Hit

The recently released Hades 2 has been a huge hit, achieving excellent review scores and doubling its predecessor’s all-time peak player count on Steam. These numbers showcase how successful Supergiant Games’ Hades 2 has been so far.

The original Hades was released by Supergiant Games in 2020 and was quite successful, selling over a million copies and garnering very positive reviews. The sequel was released in early access last year, and then fans finally saw Hades 2 launch the 1.0 version for PC and Switch on September 25, 2025. Like its predecessor, Hades 2 received glowing reviews, obtaining an average critic score of 93 on OpenCritic.

Hades 2 Has Peaked At Over 112,000 Simultaneous Players on Steam

Soon after the launch, Hades 2 reached a new all-time peak player count of 112,947 simultaneous gamers on Steam, according to SteamDB. These numbers represent more than double the original Hades’ numbers, as the title peaked at 54,240 gamers. Maintaining its “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, Hades 2 continues to be a big hit with the fan base, too, and the roguelike may reach even higher numbers over the weekend.

While Hades 2 has been highly successful, not all aspects of the game have been equally well-received by the fan base. Hades 2’s ending has upset some fans, for example, who have criticized both its concept and execution. The true ending was only added in the 1.0 version of Hades 2, and it has been proving divisive, but this has not otherwise tarnished the game’s image with the community.

Despite the game’s success, Supergiant Games has recently revealed that there are no plans for Hades 3. According to studio director Amir Rao, the studio does not keep planning the next games while they are working on the current ones, focusing solely on one project at a time. This does not mean that Hades 3 will never happen, though, only that the title is not being developed at the moment.

In any case, the future likely holds some neat updates for Hades 2, as well as ports for more platforms. Hades 2 was only released for PC and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, and Xbox and PlayStation owners may still need to wait for a while before they can finally play the game. The original Hades took around a year to come to Xbox and PlayStation consoles, so it would not be surprising to see the sequel follow a similar path.
