Fans are starting to get a pretty complete picture of what they can expect from Battlefield 6 when it launches on October 10. DICE has set a new precedent in terms of the scale of the project’s playtesting via the BF Labs system, with a series of open beta weekends soon expanding the title to an even wider playerbase. Alongside things like the recent multiplayer and campaign reveal trailers for the game, a huge amount of momentum is currently behind the project.

The coming weeks are going to be a deeply important period for Battlefield 6 in terms of the title establishing its identity, with there being some key areas of improvement that many fans want to see compared to prior titles like Battlefield 2042. The launch weapon pool of any Battlefield title is extremely important, and this is one area in particular that Battlefield 2042 faced a lot of criticism over around the time of its release. Players now have some valuable insight into what the launch weapon count of Battlefield 6 will look like, being quite respectable compared to some of the most popular Battlefield titles of the past.

Fans Should Expect a Fairly Wide Range of Weaponry For Battlefield 6’s Full Release

As expected, the upcoming beta periods for Battlefield 6 will only feature a small slice of what the full game will eventually offer. This means that players will have a greatly reduced pool of maps, modes, weapons, and customization options. It seems that DICE is clearly aware of the interest that is being placed on Battlefield 6’s total weapon offerings, with the complete number of weapons planned for launch quickly being clarified.

According to DICE Producer Alexia Christofi, Battlefield 6 will launch with over 40 weapons that players can use, with the game controversially not committing to the class-locked weapon system of previous Battlefield entries. This is already a huge jump from what Battlefield 2042 featured, with the 2021 title facing huge backlash for its launch pool of 22 weapons. Many players felt that Battlefield 2042’s launch weapon pool fell well below the prior expectations of the franchise, making the game’s launch feel quite barren and rigid.

Battlefield 2042’s launch weapons exceeded 22 when counting weapons that were also included in the Portal mode, though many fans understandably did not count this recycled content as part of the game’s main offerings.

This was not far off from the 18-strong weapon pool of Battlefield 1942 in 2002, with Battlefield 2’s 30+ launch weapons being much higher than Battlefield 2042’s initial offerings. DICE has made it clear that Battlefield 6 takes its heaviest inspiration from the likes of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, with these titles being particularly interesting points of comparison for the upcoming game:

Battlefield 6: 40+ launch weapons

Battlefield 2042: 22 launch weapons

Battlefield 5: Around 40 launch weapons

Battlefield 1: Around 40 launch weapons

Battlefield 4: 80+ launch weapons

Battlefield 3: Close to 50 launch weapons

Bad Company 2: Around 40 launch weapons

Bad Company: Around 35 launch weapons

Battlefield 2: 30+ launch weapons

Battlefield 1942: 18 launch weapons

The Likes of BF3 and Bad Company 2 Seem Like Good Points of Comparison to BF6’s Launch Weapon Pool

Battlefield 3 famously featured close to 50 weapons at launch, setting a standard that really helped the title set itself apart from the games that came before it. Of course, Battlefield 4 would take this a step further, with the 2013 title releasing with an eye-watering 80+ weapons. It seems as if the launch plans for Battlefield 6 will be more in-line with what players saw with Battlefield 3’s launch weapon pool, however, allowing the title to offer some much-needed variety without over-saturating the game too quickly.

Many other Battlefield titles have offered similar launch weapon pools of around 30-40 in the past, including the likes of Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, and Bad Company, with Bad Company 2 verging further into the same kind of 40+ launch weapon count as BF6. While the reported launch weapon count of Battlefield 6 might not be as dazzling and all-encompassing as the likes of Battlefield 4, it already marks a clear and much-needed improvement over the infamously small launch selection of weapons within Battlefield 2042.
