Jujutsu Kaisen, by Gege Akutami, is a story centered on sorcerers and their fight against Cursed Spirits, which are born from negative energy, referred to as cursed energy, and Curse Users. In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, there are quite a few talented sorcerers who can also make use of cursed energy and utilize it in advanced ways, such as manifesting Domains, using RCT, and much more.

Over the years, Cursed Energy usage has evolved a lot, and we saw it at its pinnacle in the Shinjuku Showdown arc of the story. However, 68 years later, cursed energy is officially no more, thanks to the sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, called Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. At the end of the new series by Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki, we were surprisingly faced with the extinction of all cursed techniques, which includes Gojo’s coveted ability known as Limitless. Limitless stood as an Inherited Cursed Technique belonging to some members of the Gojo Clan, and it offered overwhelming strength, as was showcased multiple times in the series. Now, the cursed technique has died, and it’s impossible to see any new user emerge after the removal of cursed energy from humans in Modulo.

When it comes to action, not many series do it as well as Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14 on March 5, 2018. Jujutsu Kaisen’s action stands out especially due to the amazingly crafted power system of cursed energy. This power system was first seen in JJK Chapter 1, and we immediately got a proper look at what it was capable of when Gege gave us a proper look at Limitless. Limitless debuted as one of the most iconic and overpowered Jujutsu Kaisen abilities in Chapter 2, released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #15 on March 12, 2018. Sadly, this overpowered ability has gone extinct due to Modulo’s plot.

The power of Limitless allows Gojo to control the concept of Infinity by manipulating space itself. When his Infinity is deployed, normal attacks can’t even reach him. By using the lapse of this technique, he can also manifest Blue, a sphere with the power of attraction. He can also use the reversal of the technique, called Red, a repelling sphere with twice the power. These two infinities can even be combined to create Purple, an ability that erases existence itself.

While this ability stood as the most overpowered, Gojo died in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 236, which was released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #43 in September 2023, and with him, the technique vanished as well. Since Gojo died, fans expected that a new Limitless use to debut with Modulo. Given that 68 years had passed, for there to have been a new user of this power was entirely possible. Sadly, through the run of Modulo, no new Limitless user was revealed.

What’s worse is that the ending of Modulo makes it impossible for a new user of Limitless to be born. That is because, in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Yuji Itadori decided to strip away humanity’s cursed energy. With this action, he has basically made it impossible for any future sorcerer with the Limitless technique to be born, as that would require being born with cursed energy. This has officially ended the run of Limitless, which once stood as one of the greatest abilities of all time.

Yuta Okkotsu Stood As The Last User Of Limitless In Jujutsu Kaisen

Technically, while Gojo was the last character born with the Limitless technique, he was not the last character to use it. After Gojo’s death during the Shinjuku Showdown battle in Chapter 236, Yuta Okkotsu took over his body and thus gained access to the Limitless as well as the Six Eyes. Yuta, after killing Kenjaku, gained access to his brain-hopping technique, which allowed him to brain-hop for a limited time inside of Gojo’s body following the latter’s defeat and death. While making use of it in the battle against Sukuna, Yuta showcased great control over it, although nowhere near as good as Gojo.

At the end of JJK, Yuta returned to his original body; however, since Cursed techniques are imprinted in the right prefrontal cortex of the brain, there is strong evidence that Yuta took back the technique with him to his original body. That said, by the Modulo era, Yuta Okkotsu had died due to heartbreak following Maki’s death. With him, the Limitless Technique died once and for all. If a new sequel ever takes place between the original JJK and Modulo, fans would love to see Yuta in action again, and maybe even use Limitless in a way that circumvents his lack of 6 Eyes.

Why The Six Eyes Can Still Exist Without The Limitless

Six Eyes Exist Without Limitless jujutsu kaisen

Gojo uses Infinite Void inside Shibuya Station.

Limitless is definitely gone from the Jujutsu Kaisen story, just as all other cursed techniques in the world. Unless Gege Akutami finds a way around Yuji’s actions that stripped away cursed energy from humans, none of the techniques will be brought back. But that doesn’t mean all abilities simply vanish. While Limitless may be gone, its sister-prized ability from the Gojo Clan has no reason to disappear. Unlike Limitless, the Six Eyes is technically not a cursed technique but more of a trait that one is born with. Because of that, one technically does not need to have large amounts of cursed energy, or any cursed energy at all, to manifest this power. Given that minimal amounts of cursed energy still exist within humans, Six Eyes are likely to remain.

The power of the Six Eyes allows one to see everything around them, including cursed energy, in the finest detail. The user can study the flow of cursed energy to an extreme degree. In that sense, someone with a connection to the Gojo Clan could still be born with this trait in the future. In the Modulo era, no user of the Six Eyes was introduced to us, even though we saw many members of the Gojo Clan. This means that the ability has yet to reappear, but it might come back in the future. On their own, the Six Eyes might sound somewhat useless without the Limitless, but that’s not necessarily true. Being born with only the Limitless but not the Six Eyes would be a major issue, as one cannot control it without having the latter trait. However, one can definitely make use of the Six Eyes to the full extent without the Limitless. The Six Eyes would allow for superior perception, and for someone without a cursed technique, it would only be even more useful. We can only hope to see Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki return with a new Jujutsu Kaisen project, especially as Modulo was far too short for our liking. The editor for Modulo did hint at a possible new project, but for now, there is nothing confirmed or official on the way.

All the chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo by Gege Akutami are available for fans to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
