Former Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris returned to “The View” on Tuesday to address a question and answer that was largely blamed for crippling her 2024 campaign.
Less than a month before votes went to the polls, host Sunny Hostin asked Harris if there’s anything she would’ve done differently from President Biden, whom she served under as vice president from 2021 to 2025.
Without perhaps realizing the extent to which voters wanted change, Harris fatefully replied there was “not a thing that comes to mind … and I’ve been a part of, of, of most of the decisions that have had impact.”
On Tuesday, Harris explained the tightrope she was walking when she gave that answer.
“I’m a loyal person and I didn’t fully appreciate how much people wanted to know there was a difference between me and President Biden,” she said.
According to Harris, a woman of color from California who’s more than 20 years younger than her East Coast boss, said she thought the differences between the pair were obvious, noting she also still had a job to do as VP.
“I didn’t want to offer a difference in a way that would be received or suggested to be a criticism,” she stated.

Harris said she spoke on the campaign trail about wanting to lower inflation, extend child tax credits and find new approaches to health care — topics she thought made her case without discussing her boss’ resume.
“I realize now that I didn’t fully appreciate how much of an issue it was,” she confessed.
Her initial reply was so damaging that the Trump campaign posted it online before the election to make sure no one missed it. Harris denied that moment was her campaign’s death knell.
