A new leak claims that unused PS5 store icons could indicate that features such as cross-buy and an “echo mode” are potentially in development for Sony’s console. Additionally, the leaked PS5 store icons included some that could indicate which games are available on both PS5 and PC, though the alleged icons were notably absent from the PS4’s database.
Since its shaky 2020 launch, the PS5 has gradually increased its user base thanks to exclusive titles and support for popular third-party games. As support for the PS4 has wound down, more users have jumped to the PS5 to continue playing their favorite titles via backward compatibility, along with exclusive games. Although some of the PS5’s top titles, like God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, eventually made their way to PC storefronts, the PS5 family remains an affordable alternative when compared to a mid-range gaming PC.
Leaked PS5 Icons And Symbols May Indicate New Features In The Works
Though all rumors about potential PS5 features must be taken with a grain of salt, a new leak may shed some light on some of Sony’s plans. According to Twitter user Amethxst, new icons and symbols may be added to the PS5 console and various PSN websites. These include a “PS5/PC” icon that may be used to indicate which Sony-backed games are available on both platforms, such as Lost Soul Aside. Additionally, a Cross-Buy icon was uncovered, though its purpose remains unclear as of this writing. Game Rant corroborated Amethxst’s claims with a screenshot taken on a PS5 at 8:30 PM Eastern on November 4.
Given that Sony’s competitor, Microsoft, offers a cross-buy option for PC and console games via the Xbox Play Anywhere program, the leaked “Cross-Buy” icon could indicate that Sony may consider a similar offer. Other icons from the leak include green and gray symbols with a charging indicator in the center, along with some unused icons for games that support cloud save backups and DualSense touchpad controls. The leaked icons are notably absent on the PS4, but are available to view on PS5.
In response to questions from other users about the legitimacy of the leaked icons, Amethxst shared a video as proof that the icons exist. Amethxst’s PSN profile information box displayed each of the leaked PS5 icons, along with brief descriptions. Amethxst stated that the icons were added between March and November 2025, implying that they were recent additions.
With the PS5 holding strong at over 80 million units sold, support for the console will likely continue for years to come. It remains to be seen if any of the leaked PS5 icons will bear any fruit.
