Metroid Prime 4: Beyond players will encounter the Carvex boss in the Garden of Remembrance area of Fury Green. It’s the game’s second major boss fight, and, much like with Aberax before it, those hoping to beat Carvex will need to make use of a skill that they learned a little earlier on in the game.

Every Metroid Game Ever Made From Worst To Best, Ranked

Unlike Nintendo’s other properties, the Metroid games vary wildly in quality, and we’ve ranked each and every game in the series from worst to best.

The key to beating Carvex is to expose its core, which can be done by destroying all of its tentacles at the same time. During the first phase of the fight, this is relatively straightforward, but as more tentacles begin to sprout, some Metroid Prime 4: Beyond players might start to struggle. Thankfully, defeating Carvex is not too hard.

How to Beat Carvex in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

To deal damage to Carvex, players will first need to destroy its tentacles and expose its core. Initially, they’ll only have one tentacle to worry about, but as the fight progresses, two more tentacles will sprout. Tentacles respawn a second or two after being destroyed, so players will need to find a way to destroy all of Carvex’s tentacles at the same time. The solution, of course, is Samus’ recently acquired Control Beam.

To use the Control Beam, players should press X to switch to the Psychic Visor and then hold A or ZR to charge their attack. When they release the button, Samus will fire a purple beam that can be controlled with the right analog stick or motion controls. The aim here is to guide the beam through the weak spot in the middle of each tentacle without hitting any obstacles. If all goes to plan, the Carvex’s core will be exposed, allowing players to start blasting.

Players should take a moment to scan Cavex before they defeat it. That said, if they forget to do so, they’ll be able to obtain the log file for Carvex from the Sanctum of the Guardians area a little later on.

It’s important to note that before using the Control Beam, players will need to use Samus’ regular blaster to destroy the outer casing that protects each tentacle’s weak spot. Shooting the weak spot too many times after it’s been exposed will result in the tentacle being destroyed, so players should be sure to stop firing once the spikes have been cleared. If they do destroy the tentacle early, they’ll need to wait for it to respawn and then try again.

During the first phase of the Carvex fight, there’s only one tentacle. The next two phases have two and three tentacles, respectively, whilst the final phase has three tentacles and a wall of vines that players will need to navigate the Control Beam through. When they’re not busy destroying the Carvex’s tentacles, players will have to focus on dodging them, which they can do by strafing from left to right or jumping when it uses its spin attack.

As for destroying the core, missiles are the best option here. Players can get more missiles by destroying the spinning metal orbs that the Carvex occasionally fires out. As an added bonus, charging up the Control Beam will automatically pull in any nearby missiles or energy balls. After enough missiles, the boss will finally go down, and players will get the Psychic Bomb as a reward for their troubles.
