Thunderstorms and heavy rain with possible flooding are expected to return to the New York City area on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 80 degrees with light winds. Showers that could include a thunderstorm may visit before 2 p.m. on an otherwise cloudy day.
Rainy conditions are likely to stop after 5 p.m. A high temperature just over 81 degrees is expected to be accompanied by southeast winds gusting as high as 25 mph.
Rainfall of up to three quarters of an inch is possible. A flood watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday morning could begin with showers and thunderstorms between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. followed by a continued chance of rain.
Showers and thunderstorms become increasingly likely between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wet conditions turn probable afterwards.
A high near 85 degrees is expected as the skies become partly sunny. Wednesday night will likely bring more showers and a thunderstorm toward the end of the evening commute.
New York City was pounded by heavy rains over the weekend that left hundreds of homes and businesses without power in Queens Sunday morning. Saturday storms also wreaked havoc at the city’s airports. More than 400 flights were canceled.

The weekend forecast shows moderate temperatures topping out near the mid-80s with no indication of rain. The Weather Channel is calling for low temperatures hovering around 70 degrees throughout the week with Wednesday and Thursday night weather getting down to 66 degrees.
