Nico Robin’s Fight With Shepherd Sommers Was The Highlight Of One Piece Chapter 1148
In the last couple of chapters, Oda heavily focused on the Holy Knights’ ability to regenerate. Many characters pointed out how the Holy Knights were immortal and, as a result, nobody could harm them. In addition to their immortality, they were given insanely overpowered Devil Fruits and Haki. All these abilities made the Holy Knights almost invincible.
So, when it became clear that Nico Robin was going to fight one of them in Elbaf, fans were eager to know how things would play out. Most of them were aware that Robin lacked the necessary power to hurt Sommers, so they were expecting Oda to give her some kind of power-up. Naturally, there was a lot of discussion among the fans about what it could be.
Most fans believed that it was the right time for Oda to give Robin Armament Haki. She has trained with the Revolutionary Army in the past, and since the top officers can use Haki, it makes sense for them to teach her. However, Oda decided to go down a different route.

Nicor Robin can create clones
She was able to distract Sommers temporarily
In One Piece Chapter 1148, fans saw Robin attacking Sommers and pushing him away from the children. She knew her attacks wouldn’t harm him, so she devised a plan to save her friends and the kids. Nico Robin created a clone with the help of Hana Hana no Mi to grab Sommers and jump off the cliff.
It took a while for Sommers to figure out what Robin was up to. Once, he found that she was trying to take him away from the kids so that his Devil Fruit ability would stop working. If she were successful, the children and the Straw Hats would no longer have been restrained. Unfortunately, Sommers attacked Robin’s body with his vines, and her body began to dissipate. Sommers figured that Robin had used a clone to distract him. Eventually, he used his power and went back to where Robin was.
It didn’t take long for Sommers to trap her with the vines. Next, he readied himself to finish off Robin once and for all. But before his attacks could land, Gaban came out of nowhere and chopped off Sommers’ right hand. Surprisingly, Sommers’ hand did not regenerate, implying Gaban knew how to bypass the Holy Knights’ immortality. Gaban did not stop there. He launched one more attack that struck Sommers’ chest.
Robin Deserved A Better Power-up
Oda Should Have Given Her Armament Haki
Before the fight had even begun, fans knew Robin wouldn’t be able to harm Sommers without Haki. So when Oda didn’t give Robin Armament Haki, the outcome of the fight became clear. It’s rather surprising that Oda didn’t think that it was the right time to give Nico Robin Haki. Considering she trained with the Revolutionary Army, she should have awakened it during the timeskip. Almost all Revolutionary Army officers have access to Haki, so there’s no doubt that they would have taught her to use it.
I like that look on you, Nico Robin. —Shepherd Sommers
It’s understandable if Oda didn’t want to give Robin Haki immediately after the timeskip, but now would have been the perfect time, especially since the story is already in the Final Saga. Hopefully, Oda will change his mind and give Robin the power before Elbaf ends.
