One Piece’s Elbaf Arc is heating up with each passing chapter, and now, after months of waiting, the main battles have finally begun. This also means that Oda has thrown a lot of focus on the Accursed Prince Loki, who is known to hold the power of the National Treasure of Elbaf, also said to be a legendary Devil Fruit. In last week’s One Piece chapter, Loki’s Devil Fruit power was finally unleashed, and it was clear to see that he could transform into an absolutely massive dragon. However, the true nature of this Devil Fruit was not revealed. There are multiple mythological dragons that exist in the world, and Oda could theoretically have gone with any of them. One Piece chapter 1175 fixes this by confirming the name of the Devil Fruit once and for all. It has now been confirmed that Loki’s Devil Fruit is inspired by Norse mythology after all, and is the Nidhogg fruit.

Luffy has received many amazing power-ups in One Piece over the years, but Gear 5 isn’t the strongest of them all.
Loki Has The Power Of The Nidhogg Devil Fruit
As most fans had expected, Loki’s Devil Fruit turned out to be the Nidhogg fruit, but the classification of this Devil Fruit is rather interesting. Loki’s fruit is technically a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, named the Ryu Ryu no Mi model Nidhogg. This Devil Fruit is said to be a legendary fruit and the national treasure of Elbaf, meaning that it has been in the country for centuries. It is said that in the past, the God of War of Elbaf had the power of the Nidhogg Devil Fruit, and he also had the ice squirrel Ratatoskr with him. The God of War was so powerful that he could even clash with the Sun God Nika.
Looks like the Guardian squirrel has done its duty and the fruit has chosen Loki. — Jarul, One Piece chapter 1175
Quite clearly, Loki himself is the second coming of the God of War himself. Loki’s Nidhogg powers are incredibly immense, and what’s most striking about them is his sheer size. It was stated by Jarul that the size of the Nidhogg is directly proportional to the size of the user. If a normal human eats the Devil Fruit, their dragon is going to be significantly smaller than that of Loki. Even a normal Giant’s dragon cannot bring out the full potential of this fruit. It is only when an Ancient Giant or someone with the blood of an Ancient Giant consumes this Devil Fruit that their true power of this ability can be brought out.
As is the case with most Devil Fruit abilities, Loki’s Nidhogg fruit grants him two unique transformations.
The full dragon transformation
The giant-dragon hybrid
So far, Loki has only used his hybrid form against Harald briefly, but Oda kept it in a silhouette. He is surely going to utilize it later down the line.
How The Nidhogg Devil Fruit Fits Loki Perfectly
The true power of the Nidhogg Devil Fruit is absolutely immense, and that goes without saying. For someone like Loki, this is a perfect fit, but the Nidhogg Fruit is more than just a strong ability for Loki. In fact, it is actually a thematic fit as well. As has been stated in the story, Loki was chained at the base of the Adam Tree for years. At the same time, in Norse mythology, the Nidhogg is said to be gnawing at the root of the Yggdrasil Tree. Quite clearly, Oda cleverly drew a parallel between these two, and as such, the Nidhogg is the perfect fit for him.

I am the Sun God who will destroy the world. — Loki
It is also said that the Ratatoskr, which is the Ice Squirrel, is the messenger of the Nidhogg in Norse mythology. Once again, Loki having the power of Ragnir, which is actually a squirrel, also fits thematically here as well. The Nidhogg brings about great destruction, and Loki, being the God of War in that sense, is also a perfect fit. Oda carefully crafted the perfect Devil Fruit for Loki, and its powers are absolutely phenomenal as well.
Loki’s Powers Can End The World
In One Piece Chapter 1175, it was quite clear to see that Loki is strong enough to destroy the world if he wants to. His sheer size allows him to utilize tremendous physical strength, but more than that, his lightning manipulation ability is what’s truly deadly. Loki can cast lightning strikes on entire countries in the blink of an eye with his powerful ability, and as such, he can destroy countries by merely passing over them.
It makes perfect sense as to why the people of Elbaf said that Loki is a destroyer and that he can go on to wreck the world, looking at his abilities. Over the course of the next three chapters, Loki is surely going to utilize his powers against the likes of Imu, and that is when the true potential of this fruit will shine.
