Dispatch is the best choose-your-own-adventure-style game that I’ve played since Telltale’s heyday with classics like The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands. AdHoc really captured the writing and narrative weight that made these iconic Telltale games so beloved with Dispatch, but it also triggers my choice paralysis in the same way. I often struggle to pick the “correct” choice in these types of games, and Dispatch immediately made me regret one decision I made with Invisigal in Episode 2.

As a player who tends to follow the “lawful good” options in most RPGs (boring, I know), my choices for Robert Robertson’s story in Dispatch reflect this tendency. I wanted to take the Z-Team from a bunch of underperforming criminals and turn them into a top SDN performer. To this end, I made sure to pick the no-nonsense, tough love options whenever possible to fit with my lawful good playsyle. However, I think this ended up being a mistake, and now I’m left wishing I had taken a different route.

Dispatch Made Me Feel Guilty About Ratting Out Invisigal in Episode 2

Dispatch Episode 2 Walkthrough 17

I’m probably in the minority, but Invisigal really rubbed me the wrong way when she was introduced during Robert’s first day at SDN. After Dispatch Episode 1, I was 100% on the Blonde Blazer train and even had Robert kiss her during their billboard date (which 55% of players did, so I’m not in the minority at least). When Invisigal entered the picture as a slacker who wouldn’t follow orders and became a liability to Robert’s job, I couldn’t help but be irritated by her character when comparing her to the much more capable Blonde Blazer.

Invisigal’s Episode 2 Choices Didn’t Prepare Me for Her Episode 3 and 4 Story

8% of players rejected Royd’s bro fist

26% of players ratted out Invisigal

46% of players didn’t let Sonar meet Vanderstenk

I think I played this episode a bit too standoffishly compared to most players, rejecting Royd’s bathroom bro fist and keeping Sonar from pestering Vanderstenk on a mission. But by far the biggest mistake I made in Dispatch Episode 2 was being too hard on Invisigal and then ratting her out to Blonde Blazer for punching Robert. I wanted to maintain a positive appearance in the eyes of Blazer, and felt that Invisigal would be a minor blip on the Z-Team’s path to success.

Dispatch Episode 3 Walkthrough 11

It’s obvious in hindsight that Invisigal would be a more crucial player in the story of Dispatch, given that she is voiced by the illustrious Laura Bailey. But with Dispatch only offering me a short window to react and make my decision, I panicked and went with my gut, which told me to reprimand Invisigal for the sake of improving the Z-Team. As Invisigal’s crush on Robert starts to become clear in the following episodes, I suddenly realized my obliviousness to the signs present in Dispatch Episode 2.

I Feel Like My Obliviousness Ruined My Chances with Invisigal in Future Dispatch Episodes

Dispatch Episode 4 Walkthrough 14

Although at this point I had pretty thoroughly committed to romancing Blonde Blazer, I still felt guilty about the way I had treated Invisigal so far, especially after I had successfully helped her capture Lightningstruck. I got what I wanted in the form of a more competent team, but I felt like it was at the cost of spurning a potential romance option. After I chose to cut Sonar in Episode 3’s finale, I began to wonder if I needed to rethink my strict, no-nonsense approach.

Less than 1% of Dispatch players helped Invisigal against Lightningstruck, so I felt a special sense of accomplishment seeing that achievement.

Dispatch Episode 4 Walkthrough 15

My Final Choice in Dispatch Episode 4 Stung Even More After the Way I Treated Invisigal, and I Wish I Could Undo It

After telling Invisigal to make her own destiny instead of further harping on her, I fully expected that to be the end of my guilt for the way I had mistreated her. That was not the case, as the ending of Episode 4 hit me with the impossible choice: go to dinner with Blonde Blazer or see a movie with Invisigal. I felt like this was the pivotal choice for Dispatch’s potential romance routes, but I was already committed to Blazer. Rejecting Invisigal after feeling I had turned a corner with her hurt even more than any previous choice I had made, and if I could do it all again, I would be sure to treat Invisigal with more grace than I initially did.

I am once again in the minority as 34% of players chose dinner with Blonde Blazer over a movie with Invisigal.
