Ontario-Breaks-iGaming-Record-for-Second-Straight-MonthOntario-Breaks-iGaming-Record-for-Second-Straight-MonthOntario’s iGaming market reached a new milestone in September, posting its second consecutive monthly record with total wagers hitting CA$8.55 billion (US$6.11 billion), according to data from iGaming Ontario.

The figure marks a 5% rise from August’s CA$8.14 billion and a 30.7% increase compared to September 2024, underscoring the province’s continued dominance in North America’s regulated online gaming landscape.

Record Wagers and Growing Player Base

Casino gaming once again led Ontario’s iGaming performance, generating CA$7.34 billion in wagers. Sports betting followed with CA$1.06 billion, while peer-to-peer poker accounted for CA$144 million. Non-adjusted gross revenue for September totaled CA$329 million, slightly below August’s total but up 18.8% year-over-year. This marks the sixth consecutive month that Ontario’s iGaming revenue exceeded CA$300 million.

Casino gaming contributed CA$277.8 million, or 84.4% of total monthly revenue. Sports betting delivered CA$46.5 million, and poker generated CA$5.1 million.

In addition to record wagering, Ontario reported an all-time high of 1.2 million active player accounts in September. While player activity rose, the average revenue per active account dropped to CA$282, down from CA$330 in August and CA$320 in September 2024 — the lowest monthly average since February 2025.

Several leading operators, including FanDuel and BetRivers, continue to drive Ontario’s market performance under the province’s open licensing model.

Sustained Growth in Early 2024

Ontario’s record-breaking performance follows strong momentum observed earlier in 2024. Between April and June, iGaming Ontario reported CA$18.4 billion in wagers, reflecting a 3.4% increase from the previous quarter and 31% growth year-over-year. Revenues for that period stood at CA$726 million, representing a 5.2% quarter-over-quarter rise and 34% annual growth.

The first quarter of Ontario’s 2024–25 fiscal year saw nearly 1.9 million active accounts, combining cash and promotional betting activity. The average monthly spend per account was CA$284.

Casino gaming dominated the wagering mix, accounting for CA$15.5 billion (84%) and CA$529 million in gaming revenue (73%). Sports betting contributed CA$2.5 billion (14%) and CA$181 million in revenue, with events such as the Stanley Cup Final driving engagement. Peer-to-peer poker represented CA$402 million in wagers (2.2%) and CA$16 million in revenue, slightly down due to player participation in major live tournaments like the World Series of Poker.

Ontario’s Early Success and Market Foundations

Ontario’s achievements stem from the province’s decision to open its online gambling market in April 2022 — a pivotal step that transformed it into one of the most competitive gaming jurisdictions in North America. In its first quarter of operations, running from April to June 2022, iGaming Ontario reported CA$4.08 billion in wagers and CA$162 million in revenue.

At that time, 31 gaming sites operated under 18 different licensees, including major brands such as LeoVegas and 888. There were 492,000 active player accounts with an average monthly spend of CA$113, demonstrating strong early participation.

Since its inception, Ontario’s iGaming framework has continued to evolve, with transparency and accountability at its core. Quarterly performance reports remain essential to tracking market health, monitoring operator compliance, and assessing economic impact.

Today, Ontario’s consistent record-setting results highlight a mature and thriving iGaming environment — one that balances growth, innovation, and player protection under a robust regulatory model.
