Playtech-expands-North-American-footprint-with-entry-into-Albertas-online-gaming-market-coverPlaytech-expands-North-American-footprint-with-entry-into-Albertas-online-gaming-market-coverPlaytech has entered Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on the first day of the province’s new online gaming framework, extending the company’s presence in Canada and adding another regulated jurisdiction to its North American operations.

The gaming technology supplier is supporting a group of licensed operator partners in Alberta with access to its casino and live gaming portfolio. The launch gives operators in the province access to titles that have already generated player engagement in other regulated North American markets.

Among the games available are Adventures Beyond Wonderland and Mega Fire Blaze™ Roulette. Playtech is also supplying casino content including Oink Oink Oink™ as part of the offering made available through its operator partnerships.

Casino and Live Content Arrive With Market Launch

Playtech’s Alberta entry coincides with the opening of the province’s regulated online gaming sector. The company said its experience working with operators in established regulated jurisdictions will support its activities as the Alberta market develops.

The supplier is using its existing portfolio as the starting point for its presence in the province, while indicating that its offering can broaden over time as the regulated market matures.

Shimon Akad, Playtech Chief Operating Officer, stated: “Entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market on its first day is a significant milestone for Playtech’s North American expansion strategy. We are pleased to be supporting our partners with some of our strongest-performing content and are committed to working closely with them as the market evolves, broadening our offering and helping them deliver engaging player experiences to support their long-term success.”

The launch adds Alberta to Playtech’s existing Canadian operations. The company previously entered Ontario when that province opened its regulated iGaming market in 2022, also joining from the first day of market opening.

That earlier launch established a regulated-market presence in Canada that Playtech is now extending westward with its Alberta entry. The company’s latest move continues its participation in newly opened regulated markets across North America through partnerships with licensed operators.

Alberta Framework Shapes Playtech’s Entry

Alberta’s online gaming market operates under a regulatory structure established through the iGaming Alberta Act and supported by AGLC’s iGaming Standards. Playtech highlighted the framework as an important part of the environment in which licensed operators and suppliers will operate.

Player protection also forms part of the new market structure. Playtech specifically pointed to the creation of a centralised self-exclusion system as a measure designed to support safeguards for players participating in regulated online gaming.

Charmaine Hogan, Global Head of Government Relations at Playtech, added: “Alberta has set a strong regulatory foundation for its iGaming market, and the establishment of a centralised self-exclusion system is a particularly welcome step in safeguarding players. Well-designed regulation, underpinned by meaningful player protection tools, is what allows regulated markets to thrive and channel players away from the black market. We will continue to work constructively with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and industry partners as the market matures.”

The company’s comments connect regulatory cooperation with its commercial launch in the province. Playtech said it intends to continue working with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and other industry participants as the market develops.

Canadian Expansion Builds on Ontario Presence

Alberta becomes the latest regulated Canadian market in which Playtech has launched its content through licensed partners. Its arrival follows the company’s Ontario entry in 2022, when it joined that market at launch.

The Alberta rollout gives participating operators access to casino and live products from the outset of the regulated market. Playtech is entering with titles that already have a track record in regulated North American jurisdictions, with plans to broaden the range available to partners as the sector develops.

The move also expands Playtech’s regulated footprint across North America. By entering Alberta as the market opens, the company is following an approach it previously used in Ontario and establishing its presence within the province from the beginning of the new regulatory regime.

As Alberta’s online gaming sector develops under the new framework, Playtech plans to continue supporting licensed partners and expanding its offering in line with market development. Its initial activities focus on providing established casino and live gaming content while maintaining cooperation with the Alberta iGaming Corporation and other industry participants.
