Pokemon GO Player’s Bad Luck Streak is Finally Over After 7 Years and 105,000 Catches

A Pokemon GO player’s longstanding streak of bad luck with the mobile game has finally come to an end, capturing two “shundos” just hours apart from one another. Pokemon GO features plenty of different metrics that can determine how rare a Pokemon is, from just the creature’s base stats to its appearance. Shiny Pokemon have been a staple of the franchise since its second-generation games, with Pokemon GO giving players plenty of opportunities to pick up the different-colored variants. However, one type of Shiny in Pokemon GO has proven especially elusive for many fans.

For fans tracking the stats of their Pokemon GO companions, a “hundo” is one of the strongest Pokemon a player can find. A “hundo” usually refers to any Pokemon who have maxed-out stats for their Attack, Defense, and HP, often referred to as “four-star” Pokemon and given a special pink border for their star rating. “Shundos” are the nickname given by fans to Pokemon who not only boast max stats, but are also the Pokemon’s Shiny variant, which can prove extremely difficult to capture. One fan, however, has ended their “shundo” bad luck streak in triumphant fashion.

Reddit user Mtrees2404 is sharing the amazing end to a years-long bad luck streak that spanned over 100,000 captures in Pokemon GO. The user introduces their bad luck streak in the post’s title, revealing that, despite playing for seven years and catching 105,000 different Pokemon, they had never managed to capture a “shundo” in Pokemon GO. However, the luck streak recently ended in dramatic fashion, with the user revealing that they had caught a pair of Shiny hundo Eevees within just three hours of one another. The user also shared their future plans for the Eevees, planning to evolve them into Umbreon and Jolteon.

The replies to the post saw other users sharing their own personal history with trying to capture perfect Pokemon in Pokemon GO. One user shared that they had been playing since the week of Pokemon GO’s launch and had only been able to capture one Shiny hundo, alongside two hundo Legendary Pokemon. Others expressed their excitement for Pokemon GO’s ongoing Eevee Community Day Classic, eager to get their hands on a shiny Eevee of their own.

Pokemon GO’s newest Eevee event comes alongside plenty of other exciting limited-time festivities set to run during July. Niantic revealed that Pokemon GO will be adding Tatsugiri to the game as part of “Water Festival 2025” later this month, with each form being exclusive to a specific region of the world. A fan-favorite sixth-generation Pokemon will also finally be joining Pokemon GO at the end of the month, with Honedge and its evolutions making their GO debut. Pokemon GO fans are in for a jam-packed July with lots of big new events to come.
