“Rocky Horror Picture Show” star Tim Curry has died. He was 80.
Curry died late Tuesday night in his Los Angeles home, according to TMZ, 14 years after he suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed. No specific cause of death has been reported. Foul play isn’t suspected.
Curry starred as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic frequently featured at midnight screenings more than 50 years later. The film also starred Susan Sarandon and Meatloaf.
The English actor originated that role on stage in London, then on Broadway before bringing it to the big screen.
His stage work included a 1982 staging of “The Pirates of Penzance” in the West End, a 1992 Broadway run of “My Favorite Year” and a 2001 production of “A Christmas Carol” at Madison Square Garden starring Curry as Ebenezer Scrooge.
Curry worked steadily over the years, largely focusing on voice work for TV series and video games. He starred in 15 episodes of the remake sitcom “Family Affair” in 2002 and 2003, according to IMDb.
Curry also recorded three albums as a solo artist.
He suffered a stroke in 2012 that left him wheelchair-bound, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Curry told fans at a 2025 event celebrating the anniversary of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” that was the reason “I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon.”
Curry’s website says the actor “almost married once” and had no children.
