Isekai is a Japanese genre of novel, manga, and anime that takes the protagonist, one way or another, to a different world from their own. Because of the infinite possibilities for story creation within the genre, it has become especially popular over the years, with big names including the likes of Re:Zero, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Sword Art Online, among many others.
The Isekai genre has some standout hits, but in general, it can feel very oversaturated due to many series having similar settings. With that being said, legendary Chinese author, Cuttlefish, is releasing a new major Isekai that has taken China by storm. After Lord of Mysteries, Cuttlefish has released ‘Radiant Blade of the Wilderness’, and based on its staggering reception, it could set itself up to be the biggest new Isekai of the decade.
Lord of Mysteries Creator Cuttlefish Releases New Isekai Novel Series ‘Radiant Blade of the Wilderness’ With Stunning Ratings
Lord of Mysteries is an incredibly popular series. The web novel for it was serialized on the platform Qidian between April 1, 2018, and May 1, 2020. While it wasn’t Cuttlefish That Loves Diving’s first series, it’s what made him as popular as he is today, especially following the new anime adaptation of the story by C. May Pictures between June 28, 2025, and September 13, 2025, for its first TV season.
With Cuttlefish’s huge popularity at the moment, we were all incredibly excited to see him start up a brand new project. Cuttlefish has officially begun the publication of a new web novel, called Radiant Blade of the Wilderness, referred to by fans as RBOW in short. On May 22, 2026, the series officially began with its first chapter, “Walking from a Dream.” The English version went on to debut long after on Web Novel, on May 30, 2026. The English translation is being handled by the same person behind the translation of Lord of Mysteries, CKtalon.
“In the deep and hollow darkness, a bone-chilling wind blew. Shadowy figures shifted around—drifting and circling. Silent lightning scattered a ghostly green glow, illuminating the world for a fleeting instant before vanishing without a trace.
Scree!
A sharp birdcall pierced Ding Songyan’s ears, jolting him awake. Sparks of lucidity flared through the fog of his stupor.
Where…
Where am I…” — Introduction of Ding Songyan in RBOW Chapter 1
Since its beginning, Cuttelfish has put in quite some hard work and released 50 more chapters, which is quite a staggering number for such a short period of time. While the story of Radiant Blade of the Wilderness is still in its beginning stages, we have an idea of what it is about, and the reception has been absolutely sensational.
For one, just like Lord of Mysteries, this story falls in the Isekai genre with the main character, Ding Songyan, being a transmigrator from China. After transmigrating, he wakes up in another body that shares the same name as his. However, he has no memories of what was before. He will uncover the mysteries of this new world and grow stronger in typical Cuttelfish writing.

Cuttelfish has other already concluded stories that could be made into anime or movies, but a RBOW is a standout series that is just breaking out, making its potential even bigger. Right now, it’s too early for it to get an anime, but in a few years, it is likely to be picked up by a studio to bring to life, especially when taking into consideration Cuttlefish’s massive popularity in China.
While already popular, Radiant Blade of the Wilderness will shoot through the sky in terms of popularity once it gets an anime adaptation. It helps that the influence of anime series is felt far and wide these days, and with it no longer being a niche, RBOW will surely be known all over the world and compete with the best of Japanese Isekai.
