Popular gaming YouTuber Scott the Woz reacted to Sony’s recent announcement that it plans to end physical disc production for new PlayStation games starting in 2028. A shift to digital-only PlayStation games has many players worried about the potential for Sony to revoke licenses for games or shut down access to online storefronts altogether. As such, the announcement has PlayStation fans across the internet lamenting the near-future loss of physical game collections, including YouTube personalities like Scott the Woz.

Scott Wozniak, known by the YouTube handle Scott the Woz, is most well-known for his comedy gaming sketches centered on hyper-specific topics within the gaming subculture, which he has been uploading since 2017. He also hosts a second YouTube channel, Scott’s Stash, where he covers the history of things like consoles, gaming accessories, and physical games in a more casual conversation format. Fans familiar with Scott the Woz’s style of comedy will appreciate his reaction to this controversial PlayStation announcement.

Scott the Woz Shares in Gamers’ Disappointment with PlayStation Ending Physical Disc Production

In response to PlayStation’s announcement regarding the console manufacturer ending physical disc production on X, Scott the Woz replied with a simple picture of himself frowning. It can’t get much clearer than that, and Scott the Woz’s reaction seems to sum up the internet’s collective feelings about the announcement. In a reply to his post, one user commented, “they just created a million ScottTheWoz’s,” referring to the potential new influx of physical PlayStation game collectors likely to spawn in hopes of preserving what’s left of Sony’s physical game library.

A large part of Scott the Woz’s YouTube identity is his commitment to collecting physical games. Notably, he claims to own a copy of every single Wii U game released physically in North America. While Scott the Woz is primarily known for his Nintendo content collection, including a selection of rare games like Devil’s Third for Wii U and Nintendo World Championship competition NES cartridges, he also has a large collection of physical games for Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Scott the Woz isn’t the only PlayStation game collector upset over this new direction from Sony. A petition for Sony to keep making PlayStation discs is blowing up online, with over 12,000 signatures on Change.org. Even other voices from within the game development industry have shared their disappointment with PlayStation ending its disc production, including companies like Limited Run Games that are dedicated to producing unique physical releases of games.

Sony’s original post on X has even been community-noted, pointing out that digital PlayStation games are revocable licenses and not true ownership of the games players have purchased. This community note brutally draws a comparison to Sony’s recent removal of 551 StudioCanal movies from PlayStation libraries due to licensing issues. As game preservationists and physical game collectors mourn the loss of future PlayStation discs, gaming collecting YouTubers and influencers like Scott the Woz are the face of a movement that seems poised to become even more relevant in the coming years as the gaming industry rapidly approaches a digital-only age.
