Best Jae Specializations
Gunslinger & Scout
The best specializations for Jae are Gunslinger and Scout, as they synergize very well with her talent, Final Shot. Here are those two specializations’ abilities as well as the in-game description of Final Shot (before any upgrades have been made):
Scout Abilities
Ambush (Ultimate)
Execute a well-timed surprise attack on an enemy. The more Advantage used in this attack, the greater the damage.
Combat Recon (Standard)
Assess threats in the target area, granting Advantage for each enemy in the assessment area.
Tactical Timing (Passive)
Provides 20% chance to gain +1 Advantage when this Operator defeats an enemy.
The Spotter (Passive)
When this Operator damages an enemy with their blaster, that enemy is Spotted.
Gunslinger Abilities
Open Fire (Ultimate)
Fire 2 Times at any combination of enemies.
Quick Draw (Standard)
Fire a lightning fast sidearm pistol shot.
Keen Eye (Passive)
Increases this Operator’s Critical Chance for all Ranged Attacks by +6%.
Onslaught (Passive)
Each attack within a single turn grants this Operator +1 Blaster Damage. This bonus applies only to attacks with this Operator’s primary blaster.
Jae Talent
Final Shot (Passive)
Once per turn, Jae immediately fires her blaster and eliminates any enemy left with 4 Health or less after an allied Operator’s attack.
The first synergy is that Final Shot can trigger Tactical Timing, giving the Operator additional chances to gain +1 AP from that Scout passive. Secondly, Final Shot triggers the Gunslinger passive Onslaught, further increasing Jae’s damage.
Gunslinger and Scout also synergize directly with each other. To start, Scout’s The Spotter passive is best when it is used to apply Spotted to multiple foes per turn. To do this, you’ll want to consistently fire two+ shots each turn, which will keep the Onslaught stacks from Gunslinger flowing.
The Gunslinger’s Quick Draw fast action, which restores 1 AP if it defeats an enemy, is also noteworthy, as it can be used to eliminate several low-health enemies in a single turn. Each of those eliminations has a chance to trigger Tactical Timing, building Advantage that can be used to execute powerful special actions and ultimates.
Skills
While you’ll ultimately be able to purchase the majority of the nodes in Jae’s Focus Tree, I recommend making these top priorities:
Get to Final Shot IV to make it easier to trigger the execution.
Go for Combat Recon VI. This Scout ability is extremely powerful, supplying your squad with tons of Advantage, and you’ll want to maximize its range.
Work towards Quick Draw V. Improving the skill’s chance-to-hit-range penalty and base damage will make Quick Draw lethal more often, making it easier to trigger Tactical Timing.
Best Jae Equipment
Weapons & Mods
The Blaster Pistol is the best weapon for this Jae build. As noted, you want to be firing at multiple enemies each turn, in order to spread out Spotted and earn Onslaught, and the 1 AP-cost to shoot the pistol supports that goal.
You could consider using the Blaster Rifle if you want Jae’s shots to deal consistently higher damage, though I find the 2 AP-cost to fire shots after the first one to work in opposition to this build’s plan.
Since you’re looking to hit multiple enemies per turn with Spotted, the best weapon mods for Jae are those that apply additional status effects. Specifically, look for mods that reduce a target’s Defense, apply stacks of Burn, and inflict Shock. You can also find stabilizers that increase Blaster Damage by +1 after attacking with the blaster (expires at the end of the turn), and that works very nicely with the build’s focus on maximum shooting.
Utilities
You have a lot of flexibility with Jae’s utility slots, as there aren’t any items that are particularly aligned with her talent or the recommended specs. I personally like to give her a utility that increases her movement, as mobility is important for getting into position to deliver Final Shots. Medpacs are also fine options, as it’s always nice to have access to some healing.
I recommend avoiding utilities that cost 2 AP to use, as you’ll always have other uses for that AP.
How to Play Jae
Here is an overview of how to play this Jae build:
Move Jae into a position that gives her line-of-sight on many enemies, allowing Final Shot to trigger consistently. Make sure to adjust her position as enemies move and are dispatched.
Use Combat Recon on as many enemies as possible for lots of Advantage.
Eliminate any low-health targets with Quick Draw if possible.
Use your remaining AP to shoot multiple targets, applying Spotted and any status effects from your weapon mods.
Repeat Steps 2–4, repositioning as needed.
