Steam has released a beta client build that allows users to test out a redesigned store menu and improved search functions ahead of its public release. Steam users who switch to the Steam Client Beta build will notice that the left-side column and blue bar at the top of the screen have been merged into a new pane, along with additional search recommendations.

The Steam store redesign came amid several changes that Valve has made to the popular PC storefront. In a late June Steam client update, Valve included a performance monitor tool that allowed users to see how their PC handles specific games and programs, with data such as frames per second, CPU and GPU usage, temperatures, and whether upscaling technologies like Nvidia DLSS are being used during said tests. Users can glance at Steam’s performance monitor data to diagnose potential hardware issues or to determine whether their PCs can handle more intense graphical settings.

Steam User Spots Unexpected Game in Coming Soon Section That Definitely Shouldn’t Be There

A game that shouldn’t be on the Steam store after stirring up controversy mysteriously appears for some users.

Weeks after a Steam Store redesign was leaked on social media, users can now test the new Steam Store UI for themselves. According to Steam’s announcement page, the Steam Client Beta app now includes a redesigned Store homepage that merges the left-side column of options with the top-side menu pane. The new beta menu bar’s main options include browsing the Steam Store for new releases or top sellers, recommendations based on a user’s recently played games, and categories that sort games by genre.

Steam Store Redesign Now in Beta

The Steam Client Beta app consolidated the Store Menu’s main options into a new pane.

The top side menu now allows users to see top-selling games, recommendations, and other features.

The search pane also includes easy access to advanced search options.

Users can also purchase a Steam Deck or a Docking Station from within the Steam Client’s redesigned menu, along with seeing which games utilize VR headsets, controllers, or co-op play. The new search menu also has easier access to the advanced search page, giving users more options to find the games or apps they want.

Steam users can opt into and out of the beta client at any time. This is done by selecting Steam Settings from the top left of the app, selecting the Interface option pane, and then selecting the drop-down choice to opt in or out of Client Beta Participation. Users must ensure their Steam clients are up-to-date before opting into any Steam beta builds. Valve stated that users can report bugs and provide feedback via the Steam Beta group forum. No timetable was given for when the Steam Store changes would be publicly released.

The Steam Store changes came as users petitioned Steam to make changes following the removal of some adult games from the storefront. Only time will tell what additional changes Steam has planned throughout 2025.
