As MAPPA celebrates 15 years of crafting some of the most popular anime series on the scene, the studio has revealed a new Attack on Titan visual as part of the ongoing festivities. Hajime Isayama’s beloved dark fantasy manga series was initially brought to the small screen by Wit Studio, with MAPPA taking over for its fourth and final season. Despite its anime adaptation having come to an end back in 2023, Attack on Titan remains wildly popular with fans around the globe, and this gorgeous new image is sure to stick with longtime viewers of the post-apocalyptic series for years to come.
Despite its relatively short history, MAPPA has become one of the most lauded studios in the world of anime, with the company releasing hit after hit since its establishment in June 2011. From Yuri on Ice, Kakegurui, and Dorohedoro to Jujutsu Kaisen, Vinland Saga, and Chainsaw Man, the studio’s name has become synonymous with high-quality animation. MAPPA was started by Masao Maruyama, who previously co-founded Madhouse, known for its work on mega hits like Death Note, Trigun, and, more recently, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

Isayama’s Attack on Titan manga series concluded in 2021, and the final anime episode aired in 2023. The last four episodes were merged into a full-length film, Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack, which was released in late 2024. This isn’t the end for the beloved series, however, as the Attack on Titan 3 video game may be right around the corner. Although a release date has not yet been confirmed, the title received an ESRB rating this week, implying that fans won’t need to wait much longer to jump into the next installment. The game was officially announced at this month’s Summer Game Fest Showcase, and a proper update is expected on July 1.
The Attack on Titan manga series has sold over 140 million copies, putting it on the same level as other heavy-hitting releases like Bleach, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Kingdom. It has also won several major awards in the years following its initial serialization, including the Kodansha Manga Award for Best Shonen manga, the Manga Taisho for Best Manga Series, and, notably, a Harvey Award for Best American Edition of Foreign Material in 2014. Beyond the anime adaptation, it has also inspired a musical, a live-action miniseries and two-part film, and attractions at Universal Studios Japan.
