Tech influencer and longtime YouTuber Lamarr Wilson died last month by suicide at age 48, officials confirmed on Friday.
According to public records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Wilson died from asphyxia and suffocation at an L.A. residence on Nov. 21. No additional details were released.
Concern for Wilson first began swirling in mid-November when fans noticed that the content creator, who typically posted on his channels multiple times a week, hadn’t shared an update in several days. His last video was posted on Nov. 12.
His family confirmed his tragic death on Dec. 13.
“We the Wilson Family are heartbroken with this news of Lamarr’s passing,” they wrote in a Facebook post. “He had so many projects in the making, scheduled and contracted with various tech and media companies requesting his expertise, and all of these accomplishments and achievements he could add to his portfolio.”
They went on to express their gratitude for his management team, as well as “all the fans he mentored, helped or inspired.”
Wilson — known by fans as the “Tech Lifestyle Entertainer” — had amassed nearly 3.5 million followers across YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, where he gave comedic-style reviews on the latest technology, from phones and computers to smart home devices and gaming consoles.
He also partnered with major tech brands like Google, Xbox, Apple and Nintendo, contributed to the “Daily Tech News Show” podcast for more than a decade, hosted and produced two online series for Mashable — “YouTube Weekly” and “Socially Awkward” — and was recently appointed to be a judge for the upcoming CES Innovation Awards in Las Vegas in January.
Upon learning of his death, many of his followers offered their condolences and shared memories of his impact.
“Rest in peace man, you was always so energetic and entertaining,” one user wrote.
Another credited Wilson for cheering them up in a “dark moment” of their life.
“You shaped my childhood and you were such a funny and lovable human,” they wrote. “I hope you’re resting easy in heaven my dear friend. We love you so much.”
