On December 19, officials confirmed that content creator Lamarr Wilson, known for his comedic tech videos on YouTube and other platforms, had died at age 48. Wilson’s family first shared the news in a December 13 post on Facebook, and fans of the late YouTube creator expressed their condolences across social media.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 22, 1977, Wilson first created his YouTube channel in 2008. Over 17 years, most of Wilson’s content focused on his unboxing videos and comedic reviews of tech products, video games, and various smart devices. Wilson eventually came to be known as “That Unboxing Guy” throughout YouTube. Some of Wilson’s more recent videos include reviews of the latest iPhone lineup and the Nintendo Switch 2 game console. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilson turned his attention to making short-form content on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, rather than the longer videos that he had posted throughout most of his YouTube career.

Lamarr Wilson Died Weeks After His 48th Birthday

One of Wilson’s last public appearances took place in late October 2025, when he attended the Forbes Creator Upfronts event in Los Angeles, sharing a picture on Instagram to mark the occasion. Wilson’s last video before his death was posted on November 12 across various platforms, where he focused on Belkin charging stations. Concerns about Wilson and his health started shortly after the video went live, as he remained absent from social media for several days. Weeks later, Wilson’s family revealed on December 13 that the popular content creator had died. Wilson’s remaining family stated that they were heartbroken by the news and said that he had several projects still in development with various tech and media companies.

Wilson’s family expressed gratitude towards his management team and to any fans that he helped or inspired through his video content. According to public records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Wilson died at his home in Los Angeles on Friday, November 21, just four weeks after his 48th birthday. The cause of death was ruled a suicide, and the case remains open at the time of this writing. Wilson was originally scheduled to appear at the upcoming 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where he was chosen as a judge for the CES Innovation Awards scheduled for January 4.

Wilson had over 2.21 million YouTube subscribers over his 17-year career and had a combined total of over 3.5 million followers across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram thanks to his comedic videos and reviews. Wilson also starred in the first episode of George Takei’s show “Takei’s Take,” which earned Wilson a 2014 Webby Award for online film and video in technology. Wilson was also credited in Mashable and the Daily Tech News Show podcast. Wilson revealed during his 48th birthday on October 22 that he was focused on his health, having lost 48 pounds following a health scare.

Creators and Fans Share Their Reactions to Wilson’s Death

Some users on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube expressed their condolences in the comments section of Wilson’s videos and social media posts. Users shared how much Wilson’s content meant to them throughout the years, with some stating that their favorite moments included videos with other content creators like Black Nerd Comedy and DashieXP. Several content creators and media personalities, including Geoff Keighley of The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, also chimed in with their memories of Wilson on social media. Keighley revealed that Wilson wanted to reach out and help with Summer Game Fest during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, Keighley stated that Wilson’s generosity and spirit were something he would remember. Although YouTube has undergone various changes throughout Wilson’s career, his reviews have left a lasting impact on his audience.
