The Giant Owl Quest Guide In Romestead

The giant owl is found by following its shadow in Romestead. It is the very first boss players must defeat if they wish to proceed with the main quest. The owl is what gives you the Guardian’s Eye required to complete the first main mission, The Giant Owl. Here’s where to find the giant owl and how to defeat it in Romestead.

How To Find The Giant Owl In Romestead

Shortly after starting a new world, players can see the giant owl shadow and follow it. This can happen while you are casually exploring the world and collecting materials, or in the middle of a big battle with a pack of wolves.​​​​​​​

Once the giant bird’s shadow appears, flying in a certain direction, follow it until the end to discover the nest location. If you can’t follow the shadow, remember in which direction the owl flew to go there later.

The location is called Guardian of Minerva’s Nest and you will find three eggs there.

The location will be marked on the map in case you don’t want to deal with the boss immediately. Players can also retutn regularly to fight the owl after defeating it once to keep getting the rare materials.

How To Defeat The Giant Owl In Romestead

To initiate the fight with the giant owl, attack the three eggs in the nest. Once the boss approaches, a black round shadow will appear on the ground indicating where the boss will land. Step away from the shadow to not get any damage.

Attack the giant owl with spells or using melee weapons. Ranged attacks work great against the boss since it will keep following you and perform some AoE attacks.

Around mid-health, the second phase starts. It will start raining, and the giant owl will be engulfed in lightning and attack more viciously. The boss will fly away and follow you around to try and land on top of you. Avoid the shadow to not lose the fight.

Once the owl lands, it will flap its wings to try and push you away while dealing heavy damage. Additionally, lightning will randomly try to strike you, so be on the lookout for them. Be careful as the boss will repeat these move sets now and then. Keep attacking the owl until it’s defeated.

Loot the chest to get some rare materials as well as the Guardian’s Eye in Romestead. Don’t forget to attack the chest to take it with you.

Return to your base and offer the Guardian’s Eye to the altar to unlock new station blueprints and a new armor set recipe.
