Some of the greatest Final Fantasy villains of all time are adults. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 has a massive sword, silver hair, and looks that could kill. Kefka from Final Fantasy 6 has an infectious laugh and was able to get pretty far on his planned route to world domination, unlike most villains in RPGs.

8 Final Fantasy Characters Who Start Weak But Become Powerhouses

These Final Fantasy characters start out frustratingly useless in combat, but their power will surprise you by the time the credits roll.

That said, it’s more interesting to look at some of the minor villains in the greater Final Fantasy universe who are not adults but young teens or children. How did they become villains, and what exactly were their goals? Let’s dive in and find out.

Mindy

A Child At Heart

Mindy is one of the Magus Sisters who first appeared in Final Fantasy 4. They were mini-bosses in the Tower of Zot before the main boss, Barbariccia, appeared. Mindy’s age is unknown, but she clearly looks like the youngest of the sisters, who doesn’t look much older than Palom or Porom, two party members, who are around five.

As a mini-boss, Mindy doesn’t have a huge presence in Final Fantasy 4, but she and her sisters do have a good presence in the series overall. One of their coolest designs appears in Final Fantasy 10 as three sisters take on a bug-like appearance.

Elena

Wet Behind The Ears

The Turks are one of the coolest organizations in Final Fantasy 7, as they are the elite security team within Shinra, sort of like their own version of the CIA. All members are fairly young, but Elena is the youngest, who comes into the game later at eighteen.

In the original game, she is depicted as a diehard member of the team, looking up to Tseng, the leader, and always trying to walk the company line even though her comrades, Reno and Rude, are more chill. In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Elena has even more energy and is a bit of a klutz, but still a deadly member of the team who is skilled in martial arts and isn’t purely evil so much as she just believes in her mission.

Shelke Rui

Arrested Development

Expected Age: 10 (Appears 19)

Shelke Rui is one of the members of the elite Tsviets unit from Deepground, the organization that sprang up after Shinra fell in Final Fantasy 7, in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7. She looks like a nineteen-year-old, but in an odd twist of fate, she is stuck in the body of a ten-year-old.

She was brainwashed into becoming an elite soldier, but in the end, the hero, Vincent Valentine, helps bring her back to reality, so she is not the cruelest Final Fantasy villain around. Still, as a villain throughout the game, Shelke is deadly thanks to her twin lightsaber-like weapons that can seemingly cut through anything.

Kadaj/Loz/Yazoo

The Clones Of Sephiroth

Expected Age: A Few Weeks

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children is a CG film set directly after the events of Final Fantasy 7, which helped kick off the larger universe. With Sephiroth dead, three villains take his place: Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo, who look strangely like him, and it is established later that they are clones. They talk about Jenova, or mother, and want to bring destruction and order to the planet.

8 Final Fantasy Characters Who Would Make Terrible Leaders

These Final Fantasy characters may even fail to plan a good birthday, so who knows how bad things would go if they were to become leaders?

While they look like teens, or possibly villains in their early twenties, they are technically just a few weeks old after being created for the sole purpose of hunting Cloud and the others down. The most messed-up thing about them is that they talk a big game, but also cry about their mother often like infants, and this juxtaposition is very creepy for how extremely evil they are.

Seifer Almasy

An Insufferable Rival

Final Fantasy 8 opens with the protagonist, Squall Leonhart, facing off again as this school rival, Seifer Almasy, and the duel ends with Squall getting a massive scar across his face. Seifer acts like a know-it-all blowhard in school, but it’s typical rival behavior in an anime that is, until Seifer is manipulated by not one, but multiple mages in the game to do their evil bidding.

His two best friends, Raijin and Fujin, help Seifer out as best they can, even though they aren’t sure his path is the righteous one. In the end, Seifer does come to his senses but doesn’t exactly apologize to Squall. Whether he is of his own mind or not, Seifer is just an unlikable character for an eighteen-year-old.

The Black Waltzes

Manufactured To Kill

Expected Age: Less Than A Year

Black Mages have been part of the Final Fantasy series since the very first game, as one of the Jobs players could take on. In Final Fantasy 9, it is established that Black Mages are manufactured soldiers without souls who have a lifespan of about a year.

Three of the more elaborate Black Mages that players will face are called the Black Waltzes, each with a different set of powers, like one who has a bell and controls a giant monster. Their ages are unknown during the events of the game, but they could be less than a year old with the mental capacity of adults, made for one thing, killing, and that’s pretty dark.

Lani

A Bounty Hunter With An Attitude

Lani is another villain from Final Fantasy 9, or it’s better to call her an antagonist because deep down she’s only hired a hired gun from the Queen of Alexandria. As a bounty hunter, Lani, along with her cohort Amarant Coral, is paid to retrieve Princess Garnet and to kill her compatriots.

At nineteen, Lani is already skilled with her wildly huge axe compared to her more slender build and is deeply confident, too. While Amarant later becomes a party member, Lani does not. In the grand vision of Final Fantasy 9, Lani has a small but memorable role.

Argath Thadalfus

Born With A Silver Spoon Up His Choco Hole

Argath Thadalfus is an early party member in Final Fantasy Tactics whom Ramza and Delita encounter. Right away, there’s something off about him as he seems to hold his bloodline in high regard, as if he is better than everyone else. It’s no surprise then that he abandons the party and sides with a more villainous mercenary group, going so far as to kill Delita’s sister.

8 Final Fantasy Characters Who Ended Up Being Surprisingly Unimportant

They may hold some value in their respective stories and personal arcs, but these Final Fantasy characters leave a lot on the table, too.

Imagine being such a terrible person at age sixteen. In the remaster of the game, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Argath’s boisterous nature is well represented through the new voiced dialogue. He has a small presence in the early hours of the game, but he is memorable without a doubt.

Mewt Randell

Thrown Into Greatness

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is an interesting spinoff because it is an isekai where the hero, Marche Radiuju, and his friends get sucked into a fantasy book. Marche joins a mercenary group to survive and later finds out that one of his friends, Mewt Randell, is now one of the rulers of the kingdom.

Mewt’s life in the real world is miserable, so he took this opportunity to make this fantasy world better for himself by bossing others around. He is pampered and even splits off part of his personality to create a cool warrior, Llednar Twem, to defend himself. Mewt, at around twelve, is not so much an evil child as he is misguided and unable to move on until Marche is able to snap him out of it.

Earl Tyrant

An Obscure Anime Villain

Final Fantasy: Unlimited

Release Date

2001 – 2002-00-00

Network

TV Tokyo

Directors

Mahiro Maeda, Kenichi Takeshita, Minoru Ohara, Hiroshi Kimura, Tomohiro Hirata

One of the more forgotten pieces of media within the brand is Final Fantasy: Unlimited, an original anime unconnected to any of the games, although it does feature monsters, creatures, and Summons fans would recognize. The game takes place in Wonderland, a ruined world that is being controlled by Earl Tyrant, who looks like he can’t be any older than twelve and has a flair for the dramatics.

All he really wants is delicious food and for any hero to be stomped out so that they don’t meddle in his treats. He does not act until the second-to-last episode, and is often thought to be just lazy until he transforms into a chaotic entity to take on the heroes. The Earl’s exact age is unknown, but given his final form, it’s a safe bet he’s actually a cosmic being way older than the universe itself.
