This theoretical rivalry would finally come to fruition in 1962, when Godzilla and King Kong would finally settle their differences via the film King Kong vs. Godzilla.

In many ways, the original battle is meant to represent East vs. West. Both Kaiju stood to represent one aspect of a relatively fresh conflict, beautifully represented by giant beasts. Godzilla would end up losing their first duel, but later iterations would have the Reptilian Titan in a far better showing. This movie is iconic, because it began the monsters’ duel, but it is far from the best film featuring both of the iconic Kaiju.

The battle might be on the slightly sillier side, but it introduces one of Godzilla’s most powerful villains.

Mechagodzilla, like its inspiration, has had several different iterations since the beginning. The original remains the most iconic, but that doesn’t mean it is the most powerful. The film features one of Godzilla’s most iconic early designs, which is widely considered the best of his classic composition. Godzilla is decidedly friendlier in this iteration, but it largely represents his relationship with humanity, at least at this point.

Mothra first asks Godzilla and Rodan for help fighting the film’s antagonist, to which they begrudgingly agree.

The classic film doesn’t break any records when it comes to effects. Yet, the FX for the film still holds up today. It is a perfect introduction to Godzilla’s most iconic monster, and remains one of the best films of the classic era. The movie doesn’t depict Godzilla’s greatest battle with his iconic enemy, but it is the best introduction the beast could’ve hoped for.

2014’s Godzilla is one of the best reboots a franchise has ever received. The film beautifully brought the iconic titan into the modern age with a redesign. In the film, Godzilla is more of a protector than a sentient beast designed for pure destruction.

The film is the first in the Monsterverse and beautifully reignites an entire franchise. While Godzilla is one of the most iconic film creatures of all time, the intellectual property was struggling before the film. Thankfully, the movie managed to introduce the iconic character to an entire new generation and allowed for the franchise’s continued success.

Godzilla x Kong the new empire is an excellent film in the larger Monsterverse, but it feels more like a Kong film than a Godzilla movie. The titan is barely within the flick and Kong is given way more of an opportunity to shine. That said, when Godzilla is depicted within the movie, he is clearly the one running the show. The film is also integral to establishing the figures within the larger lore of the Monsterverse.

The film pits Godzilla and Kong against two completely original Kaiju. Each of the beats has an interesting design, but Godzilla feels somewhat out of place at times. Despite sharing a place on the title card, the beast feels like nothing more than a quick cameo, relegated to winning each of the battles quickly.

Godzilla: King of Monsters features what is likely the beat’s most iconic battle against his greatest nemesis. The film has Godzilla once again taking the side of humanity as they mistakenly awaken a much greater threat. The humans summon King Ghidorah through their illicit technology and nearly end the world in the process.

Just like in the original film, Godilla joins forces with some iconic Kaiju to take down his most iconic enemy. Their final battle is decidedly brief, and an un-beffitting end for one of Godzilla’s most iconic enemies. That said, the final moments of Godzilla reigning over the remaining Kaiju are nothing short of iconic.

Godzilla Minus One Honors the Franchise’s Original Themes in a Beautifully Thematic Way

Godzilla Minus One is also easily the best characterization the series has ever received, and each performance is spot-on.

Interestingly enough, Minus One depicts one of the humans’ rare victories over the creature. Yet, the final minutes of the movie confirm that the monster was never truly defeated. Godzilla has a truly impressive healing factor, but Godzilla Minus One confirms the beast can even regenerate from flesh alone. These powers will likely be elaborated on in the film’s upcoming sequel.

Godzilla vs. Kong Reignited a Huge Debate Among the Fanbase

Aside from his apparent and ever-present beef with King Ghidora, Godzilla has a frenemy unlike any other. Godzilla has a love-hate relationship with Kong, that is only further complicated by the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. However, the film not only restarted the rivalry between the Kaiju themselves, but their extensive fanbase. Godzilla vs. Kong became one of the highest grossing films of 2021.

As expected, the final villain of the film isn’t Godzilla or Kong at all, but a version of Mechagodzilla utilizing King Ghidora’s skull. Why anyone would think using the beat’s extremities is beyond comprehension, but it brought one of the most iconic villains to the Monsterverse, who was again defeated in a single film. Ultimately, fans who wanted the Titans to settle the score weren’t completely satisfied, but Godzilla vs. Kong remains an incredible edition to the Monsterverse franchise.

The chaotic beast horrifyingly destroys Japan with a never-before-seen fervor. Shin Godzilla also contains profound body horror, which is a first for the franchise.

In the film, Godzilla is ultimately defeated by a blood coagulant. Yet, Shin Godzilla makes it clear that the monster is only temporary. The movie is beautifully created and remains one of the most iconic pieces of the franchise. A sequel has been talked about, but has yet to enter production according to TOHO.
